Narrow Escape On Harlem Railroad Near Scarsdale
A southbound construction train carrying Italian laborers halted to switch for an express. The Chatham Mail, traveling 40 mph, barely avoided collision as the engineer stopped the freight train and the switch was promptly operated. The engine tore part of the construction train’s caboose. the fireman leapt clear and the engineer died attempting to save others.

Enginerrs and the construction train conductor faced danger and held their posts with steady nerves, preventing multiple deaths and serious property loss. Exchange Social at Arthur Manor Draws Lively Trade
The Exchange Social at Arthur Manor last Thursday drew strong interest with year end talks of an annual event. Articles in odd bundles were redistributed causing many surprising exchanges. Rev. Wm. D. Street won a kitten and Tinker kept a dressmaker’s waist form. Entertainment included a piano solo by Miss I Reynolds, a recitation by Miss Ada Househald, hypnotism, ventriloquism, and an address by a man of letters. Receipts reached about thirty five dollars to cover Sunday school picnic expenses.
