Costain Retires From New York Zoological Park After 30 Years
E A Costain of Brown Place retires from the New York Zoological Park where he served as Head Forester Supervisor of Nurseries and official park artist. He helped start a nursery and later a vegetable garden with greenhouses developing over thirty years of service. The artist designed bird and animal paintings used for cage identifications. He previously worked eighteen years as a designer for Hartford Carpet Company before joining the park in 1899.

In Scarsdale, a family proudly sends a 1.25 dollar dog license payment to the Village Clerk. On John R. Ross desk a typed unsigned 1.25 dollar check remains uncashed no signature. The bank cannot identify the check and the dog remains unlicensed. Another unsigned .25 dollar check from last year for a chattel mortgage is also in circulation. Five Yachts From Scarsdale Enter Larchmont Race Week
Five boats owned by Scarsdale residents were entered this week in the Larchmont Yacht Club race week program. A total fleet of 283 yachts competed across events, with Scarsdale entries including N. S. Corwin’s Alala in Class Q, H. D. Savage’s Scapa III, Roderick Stephen’s Natka in the six meter class, John E. Muhlfeld’s Flapper in the Victory class, and Gerritt Van Schaick’s Bootes in the Star Class. Van Schaick, formerly of Scarsdale, now resides in Southport Connecticut.
