Scarsdale officials plan to adopt a county program offering free metered parking to residents with permanent mobility disabilities. The measure requires a local law, public hearing, and approval at the August board meeting.
Scarsdale launches a 1.7 million dollar plan to boost water supply and pumping capacity from 15 to about 20 million gallons daily. Work along Heathcote Road progresses ahead of schedule with 12 and 16 inch pipes, while Fenimore Road station upgrades will establish it as the main pumping plant.
The Scarsdale Recreation Summer Day Camp plans a Bicentennial themed carnival modeled after an early American country fair. It will run Saturday July 31 from noon to 5 at Scarsdale Junior High School with rain date August 1. The event includes booths rides prizes and food and all are invited. Details will appear next week.
Scarsdale Pool announces an active week with a Senior Adult Splash Party on Thursday July 29 at 11 a.m. and a band concert. The Scarsdale Swim Team hosts Orienta Beach Club of Mamaroneck on Friday July 30 at 5 p.m. Coach Patti Blederman leads her squad in the second outing of the season.
Trumpet soloist Charles Affelt, principal trumpet of the Westchester Band, will perform Sammy Nestico's Portrait of a Trumpet at the Scarsdale Pool next Thursday July 29 at 8 p.m. Affelt, Eastman School of Music graduate, teaches at Hoff-Barthelson School of Music and serves as principal trumpet with the Philharmonic Symphony of Westchester. The program features Osterling Charter Oak March Wagner excerpts Vaughan Williams English Folk Song Suite and Rodgers Victory at Sea with arrangements by Robert Russell Bennett. The Jazz Ensemble and Scarsdale Summer Music Theater soloists also contribute to the concert lineup.
Scarsdale announces a healthy fiscal posture with a general fund balance of 438 230 after 6 43 million in expenditures for the year ended May 31 1976. The report notes 39 148 41 unexpended appropriations 272 486 96 revenues above budget and 126 595 unapportioned 1974 75 balance. The village ends with 166 730 unappropriated at start 1976 77 and aims to cushion major unforeseen costs amid potential court decisions.
In Scarsdale and the 90th Assembly District along with the 37th State Senate District, no Democratic candidates will appear in November after Leonard Spielberg of Eastchester and Andrew Lavezoli of Yorktown failed to gather required nominating petitions by July 15. Party chairman Samuel G. Fredman blamed the lapse on campaign timing and inexperience, noting legislators set a mid convention election date that hindered signature gathering.
