Ensign Lynn B. Clarke 23 and son of Scarsdale residents received a commendation from Col. W. A. Collier for evacuating personnel during the Kobe Oriental Hotel fire on 22 April 1950. Clarke, a Princeton graduate, served in Mine Warfare and Minesweepers in Japan and has kept in touch with home through letters about distant ports.

Second Lieutenant Frederick Anson Brown 2nd was buried at Arlington National Cemetery after being killed in action over France in World War II. An Army Air Force bombardier and former Bronxville and Peddie School star, he withdrew from Yale in 1942 to enlist, was commissioned in 1943, and his plane was shot down over Nancy, France, in 1944.
