Scarsdale received the American Automobile Association award for a perfect no pedestrian death record last year, the fifth straight year with no pedestrian fatalities. The award came from AAA judges in the National Pedestrian Protection Contest, with a letter to Mayor Ralph Keating from William J. Gottlieb of the Automobile Club of New York praising the community’s efforts. Scarsdale competed among 1,650 communities from 47 states.

Creative Writing Course Offered by Scarsdale Adult School
The Scarsdale Adult School announces a Fall session course in creative writing led by Lisa Grenelle Munroe. At the Orangeburg Army base the Scarsdale Teen-age Summer Theatre premiere of Arms and the Man directed by John Hemmerly entertained soldiers. The troupe, touring without scenery, used three sided arena style staging and received Army transport. The Greenburgh Town Council changed the Secor Rd two and a half acre neighborhood shopping center site opposite Ferncliff Cemetery to residential. Approval followed a petition signed by over 600 residents from the Secor Woods Ass’n after a public hearing.
