Scarsdale Police Department headquarters on Post and Fenimore Roads is undergoing major renovations after an International Association of Chiefs of Police study. Plans include a larger lobby public counter improved parking a driveway from Tompkins Avenue to White Plains Road and a first floor intercom system.
H. Victor Cordy assistant village manager asks residents to refrain from using water sprinklers on lawns daily between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. to conserve water.
Audrey Hochberg a Democratic Liberal candidate for County Legislator in District 8 calls for tighter methadone dispensing rules while supporting expansion of the program. She cites abuse risks from weekend take home doses and a recent case of a patient becoming critically ill at a White Plains clinic urging daily supervised dosing.
Scarsdale trustees voted unanimously to approve a 500 space garage in Freightway south of Popham Road. The plan, supported by Mayor Richard Darrow, includes land and construction costs around 1.75 to 1.8 million and may close the current lot during building. A public hearing drew about 250 residents with mixed views.
The Scarsdale swimming pool will close for four days starting Monday July 19 to bring in experts for leak assessment. Notices will be posted at the pool, which will operate regular weekend hours.
More than 60 youngsters arrived in Scarsdale for two weeks or longer with host families in the Friendly Town Program. Escorts included several women and men, with events planned such as a picnic and a Teatown Reservation visit. Donations support program costs. host families include many Scarsdale residents.
