Voters may enroll in the party of their choice at the Board of Elections White Plains before July 19. Eligible new voters include those who just turned 21 or citizenship, those with new residential qualifications, or who moved districts. An affidavit and literacy certificate are required for the first three groups. Enrollment leads to voting on Primary Day August 19 to select party nominees for the General Election.

Lt Lyford Wounded In Action In Korea
Second Lt. John Higgins Lyford Jr., 23, son of Mr and Mrs Lyford of Graham Road, reported wounded in action in Korea on June 21 by the Department of Defense. He was treated at a 4 field hospital, returned to duty, and described his injuries as minor after mine exposure. He graduated Scarsdale High School and Carleton College in 1950, entered the Marines in 1951, and was overseas since April after training at Parris Island Quantico and Camp Pendleton.

Betty Haas of Dromore Road won the 1200 mile women’s international air race from St. Augustine Florida to Welland Ontario on July 5. She landed at 12 22 p m three minutes ahead of Dorothy Rungeling of Welland, recapturing the title she won two years ago. Miss Haas’ parents are Mr and Mrs Robert K Haas, her father is vice president of Random House publishers.
