Hirshberg was elected vice-president. The board discussed social security costs totaling about 70,000 dollars and voted to add this to the current budget, raising the tax rate from 32.76 to 33.60 per thousand.

Realtor Carl Heye dies rescuing son in Nantucket incident
Carl W. Heye of 26 Lawrence Rd a 44 year old realtor with an office at 24 East Parkway died unexpectedly on June 30 in Nantucket Massachusetts while trying to save his young son Theodore from trouble in deep water. The boy was saved. He was born February 16 1913 in Brooklyn and lived in Westchester since childhood. Surviving are his wife Cynthia Harbison Heye three daughters Leslie Jocelyn and Cynthia and sister Marianne.

Recreation Dept Summer Program Opens on Monday
The Scarsdale Recreation Dept opens its 1957 summer season with a seven week program for ages four to fourteen at Greenacres Heathcote and Edgewood schools. Over 40 staff supervise activities in arts crafts shop music nature lore and athletics. Summer Theatre directed by John Hemmerly will run at Scarsdale High with two groups including a work shop and an acting troupe. Tennis swimming and clinics are scheduled with events such as the 10th annual Scarsdale Tennis championships and a Small Pony Tourney. Trips to Oakland Pool Rye begin midweek with supervision daily at local courts.

The Chamber of Commerce presented a proposed Chase Road parking lot plan and a plan view by landscape engineer Lee Moore to the Village Board. Don Pascale said the project would be a public service and favored Chase Road parking over the East Parkway railroad site proposal. Traffic penalties considered too light by village officials
Scarsdale Village Board heard Edward Robbins of the Safety Council urge higher traffic fines after a review showed three of six speeders fined $5 and others at $10. Stop sign and light violations drew $5. A petition from 33 Arthur Manor families asked for two full stop signs on Boulevard near Lyons Road. Complaints referred to the public safety committee for action.

Eastchester residents may register in person at Town Hall on Post Road near Lord & Taylor from July 15 to 19 between 1 and 8 30 p m. Centers will serve Tuckahoe and Bronxville. Village Board Won’t Appeal Pool Permit Dispute
All Settled Sydney Krause, chairman of the Village Board's legal committee, said on June 27 the village would not appeal the State Supreme Court order to grant a pool permit to Jacob Rapoport of Birchall Drive. The Board of Appeals had refused the permit after neighbors George Jaffin and Morton F. Rosenthal complained of noise. Krause noted Rapoport agreed to relocate the pool to a location satisfactory to neighbors.
