Russell elected president of Scarsdale Board of Education
Philip W. Russell of Wayside Lane was elected president to fill the unexpired term of O. H. Cheney after Cheney resigned at the regular June meeting. No action was taken on filling two vacancies caused by resignations of Cheney and Robert R. Updegraff. Russell has served on the board since 1918 and previously as president in 1919. He is currently abroad on a business trip and not expected back until late July or early August.

A W O L Club Set to Open September First
The A W O L Club, backed by the American Legion Post, will open September 1 in the Harwood Building basement. McKennis Named Temporary Westchester Democratic Chairman

Two youths suspected in purse snatching on Weaver Street
Miss E Whitefield a maid for C H Billipp on Carmage Road was accosted by two young men described as Italian or Spanish as she walked toward Quaker Ridge Station. They grabbed her purse containing about nineteen dollars and fled. Police in Scarsdale and county wires were alerted as detectives pursue several clues in the Sunday incident.

Scarsdale Building Dept Reports June Gain Below 1930 Level
Building activity in Scarsdale rose slightly from May to June this year but remains far below June 1929. Earl Culley reports June total at about 261,485 with 21 permits yielding 539 dollars in fees, including a 253,000 dollar one family dwelling and several alterations, repairs, and a garage. First half of year totals show a sharp drop from 1929 levels.
