Carl Ackley assumed the duties of president of the Scarsdale Rotary Club from Donald Ogilvy at a luncheon meeting in a final gavel ceremony. Holiday Closings and July 4 Sanitation Schedule Update
The Crossway Disposal Area will close Saturdays and Sundays 12 noon to 3 p.m. from July 5 and reopen this fall. Sanitation and post office services will be limited or altered with July 4 closures. post office Saturday hours resume July 5. The library closes July 4 and 5. Greenburgh public works changes July 7 and 8 collections, moving Monday and Tuesday routes.

Nixon appoints Michaelian to federal advisory post
Westchester County Executive Edwin G. Michaelian is named by President Nixon to the Federal Advisory Commission on Inter governmental Relations. The nomination comes through the National Association of Counties, an organization representing over 3,000 counties. Michaelian previously served on the commission after being appointed by Eisenhower in 1959-61.

Pius X Custodian Injured In Car Tank Truck Collision
A custodian from Pius X Church was badly hurt when his car struck a gasoline tanker on Post Road near Ferncliff Road. John Storen of Tuckahoe suffered a fractured ankle and upper body cuts. he was hospitalized in satisfactory condition. The tanker driver Enrico Negro of Yonkers felt a bump, then drove 269 feet before stopping and discovering the collision. The tanker, owned by Petro Truck Corp of Westbury, sustained minor rear bumper damage. In a second crash on Weaver Street near Griffen Avenue Ruth Mandel and Beatrice Frunkes were treated for injuries after their cars collided. Mandel received shock care and Frunkes was examined for back and neck injuries.

Pool Complex Dedicated In Scarsdale Ceremonies honor volunteers and officials
The dedication of Scarsdale’s new pool complex took place on a hot Saturday with Mayor Saul Horowitz Jr. leading the event. He praised Mrs. Jerome Goldstein for sparking the petition that spurred construction and thanked trustees and committee members for their work. The facility opened June 1 and features a diving pool, a wading pool, and an Olympic-size pool beside Saxon Woods Golf Course. About 1,500 families hold memberships, with 350 more on a waiting list. A plaque was accepted from Swimming Pool Age for the community effort.
