Inquirer Names H. R. Wishengrad as New Managing Editor

The Scarsdale Inquirer announces the appointment of H. R. Wishengrad as Managing Editor. A Bridgeport native, he brings more than 30 years in journalism, including work at the New York Times and leadership roles at JTA and Overseas News Agency. He also helped found the Overseas News Agency and Press Features.

J O Neil Kelly to Head Driver Improvement Unit

J O Neil Kelly of Scarsdale appointed administrator of the Westchester County Driver Improvement School replacing LeRoy Stemer who resigned due to academic duties. The school, run as a private nonprofit, aims to reduce traffic losses by teaching laws, safety, and personal responsibility. Nearly two hundred students have been processed, with judges from across Westchester referring most enrollees.

Boswell Performs Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in Local Venues

Harvard Kroks to sing through India on summer program

Richard S. Winslow Jr. of 51 Barry Road will join 13 Harvard Kroks on a two month India tour this summer. The group, part of The Experiment in International Living and Harvard Kro Kodiloes, travels in June to promote friendship through song living with Indian families. Winslow, a 1964 Modern European History candidate, may join the Peace Corps after graduation.

Scarsdale Artist Wins Major Pennsylvania Mural Commission

Vincent Maragliotti of 10 Fort Hill Lane, Scarsdale, receives a commission from the State of Pennsylvania to paint a vast mural of the state's history for the William Penn Memorial Museum in Harrisburg. The 92 by 26 foot work, in Belgian linen, marks his most ambitious project at age 76, with two assistants and a team of preparatory sketches, to be completed by next October.

Teenage Seminar On Schools In Slums And Suburbs

A group of 20 high school students from urban and suburban areas in the mid Atlantic states visits Scarsdale High School January 30 to February 1 for a seminar on Schools in Slums and Sunburbs sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee. The second part runs February 1 to February 4 in East Harlem. Scarsdale hosts include Martha Borgmann, Andrew Leeds, and Dolores Dibble. Twenty Scarsdale students serve as hosts and guides. The group discusses educational issues with Harold Howell and Board of Education members Friday morning.

Village Board Studies Traffic Hazards and Public Works

The Village Board discussed traffic safety at Sprague Road and Webster Avenue seeking stop signs. They plan to remove visual obstructions on Huntington and Post roads, repaint crosswalks, and consider a bicycle rack. State officials advised on Huntington Road and Post Road but did not promise an overpass or underpass. A franchise extension for Orienta Bus was deferred to February 25 for public hearing.

Scarsdale Moves to Acquire 48-Inch Water Pipeline

Village manager Lowell Tooley reports Scarsdale will spend 250000 to 300000 for buying and upgrading a 48 inch pipeline from New York City to serve four municipalities including Yonkers White Plains and Mt Vernon. A new water district may be created. work dates and contracts are not set. The move aims to ease summer water demand as Ardsley station cannot keep up.
