Scarsdale is named as one of the communities in a New York State and Puerto Rican labor plan to bring young Puerto Rican women trained in American housekeeping methods to the United States as resident household workers. Residents can read full details on page twelve of The Inquirer.
Scarsdale Nursing Service Inc celebrated its first anniversary as an independent group at the Scarsdale Woman's Club. The event featured free chest X-rays by the Westchester County Tuberculosis Association mobile unit, a business meeting, and a talk by Mrs. Homer E Wickenden on public health nursing in Scarsdale.
Scarsdale Post No 52 American Legion invites members to hear Jeanne Park coloratura soprano from Wichita Kansas at the February 4 meeting. Park has performed in New York for four years and sang with Phil Spitalny’s All Girl Orchestra in 1945 46. She recently completed a six week solo engagement at the Roxy Theatre New York. She is wife of Rudolph Gans of Staten Island and cousin to Louis M Hefti of Hartsdale a Scarsdale Post member.
Eastchester Adult Evening School opens second term with registration Monday February 2 from 7 30 to 9 30 p m at Eastchester High School. Offered badminton mens gymnasium wood shop dressmaking typing office practice Americanization English for foreigners Spanish music appreciation amateur photography and additional classes by demand. Regular classes start Wednesday February 4 with Monday and Wednesday evenings 7 30 to 9 30 p m music appreciation Monday only and men’s gymnasium Thursday evenings.

Greenburgh Town Council will hold public hearings at 10:30 next Tuesday in the Lyceum on two zoning changes. One rezones land on the east side of Central Avenue between Ardsley Road and Henry Street from apartments to apartments and stores. The other increases minimum residential lot size in Parkway Gardens from 5,000 to 7,500 square feet and rezones Hillside Avenue land from roadhouses and stores to residence.
Patricia Miller was elected president of the Senior Planning Board of the Scarsdale Girl Scouts at a January meeting. Patsy Roberts became vice president, Midge Haas secretary, Betty Schimmat treasurer, with Connie Kelly Lucie Bel Barnes Helga Schwab Mary Hynson and Christine Thomas as board members. The group, representing 103 registered seniors in four troops, plans a February 7 square dance “Dungaree Drag II” at the Scout House from 8:15 to 11 p.m. Hebor Dunkel will call. Mrs Dunkel is accompanist. Reservations are required, limited to forty couples. Schimmat handles reservations, Kelly decorations, Roberts refreshments.
Salvatore J. Prezioso of the Bronx will become Scarsdale's director of recreation by February 23, succeeding Marshall Laird. He brings wartime navy service, a Rockefeller Center background, and a NYU education plus extensive involvement in national and regional recreation groups. He holds roles with the Amateur Athletic Union and related associations.
The newly combined Edgemont Associations schedule their first meeting for February 19 at Edgemont School, elect eight directors for three and one year terms, and vote on by law amendments. An organization meeting and officer election follow March 15 at 54 Walbrooke Road hosted by Mrs. M A Boyd.
Residents with income tax problems may receive advice from Internal Revenue Service representatives at the Scarsdale office of The County Trust Company on February 10 and 11 and at the Scarsdale National Bank and Trust Company on February 16 and 17. Help is available from nine a.m. until closing time.
The Edgemont Tee Carnival’s twenty second annual event took place on Saturday January 24 despite a blizzard forecast. Norman R Meglathery directed races at Edmont School with about 300 participants. Lawrence Labriola organized hot food aid after trucks diverted to other duties. Troop 8 Boy Scouts and Scoutmaster O Stanley Stonesifer aided by assistant leaders contributed to fire maintenance tent duties and casualty care.
Dr. Courtney C Brown and Walter Ward headline a World Trade Town Meeting hosted by the Scarsdale League of Women Voters at Fox Meadow School gym on Thursday February 5 at 815 pm Mayor Harry E Humphreys Jr will moderate Brown a noted economist and former Chase official Ward a banker and author live Ossining resides Ward has led banking and foreign trade groups and advised state and national committees The sponsoring committee lists many Scarsdale business and finance figures and the League calls for renewed support of world trade agreements to aid economic recovery and peace
The Town Club endorses a pilot of penny nickel meters near Scarsdale station with meters at two sites on Garth Road and east of the tracks. The plan, supported by the Chamber of Commerce, argues meters free police for patrols and yield funds for parking needs, with costs and revenue detailed from Bronxville and White Plains comparisons.
A bronze memorial plaque will be placed above the mantel of the Boy Scout house on Wayside Lane listing all Scarsdale Troop members who died in World War II. Names will be verified, deadline April 30 for additions, dedication planned for Memorial Day.
The Recreation Department presents two Scarsdale teams, Immaculate Heart of Mary seniors and the Gremlins, in a Friday night game at eight. A postgame dance and snack bar will follow.
The Edge mont Choral Group holds its first organizing meeting in the music room of Edge mont School on Monday evening February 16 at 8 15. Director Frank H Dinsmore invites community members interested in singing to join.

Scarsdale spent 24000 dollars on snow removal since Christmas with 5000 dollars spent earlier this year mostly for the March storm and road sanding. The village budget allotted 14000 for snow removal, leaving expenditures about 15000 over budget as winter continues. Village Manager Reeves Newsom says current equipment covers only small storms. outside contractors were used for larger needs after the Christmas storm.
The Health Department reports five new whooping cough cases this week in Scarsdale following prior pox and measles. Officials urge vaccination and watchful monitoring of respiratory illness in the community.
Scarsdale School District No. 2 voters meet at Quaker Ridge School on Monday February 2 at 8 30 pm to decide on continuing the eight grade program. The special educational committee chaired by Gerald S. Stone with members Mrs. Edward M. Stanley Mrs. Hugh Feltis David B. Mathias Edwin A. de Lima and James A. Roberts concluded the school should remain an eight grade institution. Dudley Hare distributed the report with upper grade students placing copies in district mailboxes. The board led by Walter E Barnes unanimously supports maintaining eight grades.
The Overhill Association will hold its annual meeting next Tuesday at 8 30 PM at the home of president Philip L Carret 28 Circle Road.
The Board of Education will hold a regular meeting Tuesday evening next week at 8 15 in the High School board rooms near the Brewster Road entrance. The time is one day later than the usual schedule.
Frank J. O'Brien M D Ph D associate superintendent of New York City schools will address Edgewood P T A on Monday February 2 at 8 30 p m in the school gymnasium on Making the Most of Out of School Hours Coffee will be served in the kindergarten room from 8 to 8 30.
The nonpartisan Citizens Committee announced nominees for village trustees and a mayoral term. Arthur McCain and Harold Smith seek two year terms. Earle Van Vliet seeks a one year trustee term. Harry Humphreys Jr. named to complete Darby’s mayoral term. Harry Liese to seek reelection as trustee.
Frederic E. Lyford was elected president of the Hitchcock Memorial Church board at the organization meeting after the January 18 congregational meeting. Kenneth C. Bell became secretary and Anson McLoud remains treasurer. Willard A. Kiggins Jr and Chester R. Dewey were elected to fill vacancies from the retirements of Theodore Lee Brantly and George F. Fisher. J. Lester Van Name and Frank A. Willard were reelected.
