Scarsdale Community Fund reports 162123 dollars raised by mid January, 96 percent of the 168500 goal. President Clemens A Erdahl warns the drive may miss its target without late gifts while detailing contributions by pacemakers corporations and general solicitation and stressing broad community support is needed.
The Scarsdale High School PTA Scholarship Fund begins its drive on February 1 with letters and calls led by chairman David L. Rosenberg. The fund helps qualified graduates facing financial hardship to attend college, having aided 124 students since 1950 and $7,856 last year for 15 students.
Mayor Ralph K. Rogers announced seven appointees to a Scarsdale citizens parking committee. Eugene R. Smoley will chair. others include Mrs. Theodore Hirtz Richard L. Gerloff an official of Scarsdale National Bank and Trust Richard Hansen William F Hogan Fordl D Overfelt and Acting Postmaster Timothy D Sullivan. The panel includes residents and business professionals and will study parking needs.
Scarsdale Police Department records show 226 traffic accidents in 1963, up from 1962. Despite more crashes, injuries fell to 133, with one fatality in 1963, Peter Weinstein, an eight year old boy, at Huntington Avenue and Post Road.
The Scarsdale Adult School presents a five week lecture series titled Values in a Changing World with speakers from education psychiatry biology history and philosophy. Lectures run 8 30 p m on five successive Tuesdays February 25 through March 24 in the high school auditorium.
The Scarsdale League of Women Voters endorses the village board approved advisory committee on human relations. The unanimous decision favors an advisory unit over a full commission to handle racial and religious tensions, with duties to be defined and complaints reported to the board.
A staged security operation involving Mrs X and an off duty officer escorted a pre Columbian gold and jade exhibit from Scarsdale to the Museum of Primitive Art in New York. Police guard details in Scarsdale and Eastchester ensured safe storage in a bank vault before and after the display. A second city foray proceeded smoothly until a parking ticket threat surfaced at the end.
Mrs Warendorf faced a problem with a nearly new Volks wagen she needed to sell at a fair discount. Peter L. Citron resigns after three years on the Inquirer staff and as editor since June 13. A Scarsdale native active in the Chamber of Commerce and Luman Center advisor, he won a 1962 NY Press Association feature award. Andrew Fogelson also leaves to resume studies at Union College.
The Non-Partisan Citizens Committee named Robert Delany Jules Wacht and Emily Hobbs as village trustee candidates. They will seek endorsement from Republican and Democratic caucuses for ballots March 17. Delany is a Democrat with a legal and military background. Hobbs is a Republican with a record in law and civic groups.
