Scarsdale Board hires consultant to aid community updates
The Scarsdale Board of Education approved a four month contract for David Wachsman of Mamaroneck at 1500 dollars a month to craft newsletters and materials. Some residents criticized the move as propaganda while others supported the expense. The meeting also included a tax exemption proposal for seniors and note of upcoming contract negotiations with the Scarsdale Teachers Association beginning January 18. Enrollment across Scarsdale schools fell by 37 students from 1969 to 1970. The next meeting is February 8 at 8 15 p m at the Junior High School to review each school’s assessment report.

Tragic Fire Claims Life of Six Year Old Sittenfeld
Six year old Robert Sittenfeld died after a January 2 house fire at 28 Oak Lane that gutted the pantry, kitchen, and dining room. Bobby was moved from White Plains Hospital to Memorial Hospital in New York City where he died in Memorial’s ICU. Sittenfeld twins Miriam and Betty, both five, were reported in good condition at White Plains Hospital, while Linda, 15, and Vicki, 12, were rescued and not hospitalized. Funeral services for Bobby were held at Riverside Chapel in Mount Vernon.
