Village workers vote on union representation next Tuesday

About 75 employees in the Village’s Highway Water and Sanitation Departments will vote after work to decide whether AFSCME remains their bargaining agent or switches to the Teamsters Local 456 in Elmsford. AFSCME may also remain unrepresented.

Scarsdale Fire Department buys a hydraulically powered rescue tool from Hurst that pries cuts and pulls crash victims free in seconds. It operates off a motor and hose, weighs over 60 pounds, and can exert 10 000 psi. The tool adds lever and shear functions to free trapped passengers while reducing fire risk.

Forty one vie for Scarsdale school committee seats

Forty one candidates were nominated by petition to fill 14 openings on the Scarsdale School Board Nominating Committee. The Administrative Committee said each unit provided enough petitions, with at least two nominees per opening, to avoid further selection.

Aeverything’s Aesop Highlighted at Board of Education Meeting

School Board Opens Doors for Resident Inquiries

The Board of Education invites Scarsdale residents to an open door session on Thursday January 13. The informal meeting runs from 9 30 to 11 a m in the conference room at the High School Breuster Road entrance with members of the board and the Superintendent of Schools available to answer questions.

The Scarsdale Historical Society signs with Harrison Excavating to relocate the 1828 Quaker Meeting House from 215 Weaver Street to 937 Post Road. The project includes graded site work, a parking area, and a multi level reconstruction to create offices, a meeting room, and exhibit space by late April 1977.

Rec Program Opens Sixth Season this Sunday in Scarsdale

Scarsdale Sunday Recreation Program starts its sixth season this Sunday January 9 at 2 p.m. at the Re School with new parent child courses a 90 minute art music and tumbling class for ages 3 to 5 and ongoing registration at the High School. The program offers gym play supervised game room refreshments and a 3 p.m. film slate The event relies on volunteers and interested helpers may contact registrar Ann Hirsch at 725-2796.

Friends of Library present That’s Entertainment III film series

The Friends of the Scarsdale Library host seven Tuesday night screenings from January 15 to April 19 in the Scott Program Room at 8 p.m. All films are free, running about two hours with period shorts before each feature, featuring stars like Judy Garland, Katharine Hepburn, Danny Kaye, Alfred Hitchcock, and Gene Kelly.

Renovated Village Hall Annex To House Night Watchman

The Village Hall Annex, unused for two years, will be renovated into a home for Evan Grugett and his wife. Grugett will serve as night watchman and be a visible village resident near the hall, with the village board set to finalize terms next week. The annex sits at Post and Drake Roads, was built in 1925, sold to Christian Scientists in 1927, and acquired by the village in 1953.

LWV Scarsdale Luncheon and Meeting Planned

The League of Women Voters of Scarsdale will hold a mid winter luncheon and general membership meeting on Friday January 14 at 12 30 p m at Dyckman Hall Scarsdale Congregational Church Heathcote Road The discussion will cover New York State Legislature topics and potential league recommendations Reservations can be made with Sheila Sweet or Helene Greenberg The League Night unit will meet Wednesday January 12 at 1 Fox Meadow Road to participate in consensus discussions for parents and workers.
