The case of Mrs. Dana versus the Hudson River Railroad over her husband’s death at Bronxville on August 22 was continued. The defendant argued Dr Dana was negligent for driving behind a moving train onto another track, releasing the railroad from liability. The jury returned a verdict for the railroad after a day and a half of deliberation.
A grand jury returned a true bill of indictment for murder against Frank Boyd now jailed. He is accused of robbing and killing Mrs. Isabella Allen of Cottage avenue on January 22 last. Chief Carpenter and local officers report strong evidence. Witness Peter Beverly was released from jail by the district attorney. Boyd admitted to Beverly a crime committed before Mrs. Allen’s body was found. Authorities push for an early trial.
The Board of Trustees held a public hearing last Tuesday evening to review proposed sewerage arrangements. The Butler Estate suit was decided against the village, heightening citizen demand for a better system.
At a Feb 15 1892 special Town Board meeting the amended boundary lines between Scarsdale and Mamaroneck and between Scarsdale and White Plains as mapped by State Engineers were adopted. White Plains and Mamaroneck each ordered payment of their share of the monument-setting bills.
Mr Elmer Carpenter conductor on one trolley narrowly escaped serious injury Monday morning last week on Grove Street White Plains. While two cars pushed through the snow he passed between cars and grasped a bar receiving a severe shock and fell into deep snow but quickly recovered.
William Walton of Lexington Avenue White Plains was held up by two men at gunpoint near Mamaroneck while driving from New Rochelle to White Plains around four in the morning on February 18. The assailants took 17 dollars and a gold watch and were last seen heading toward Connecticut.
Last Friday afternoon February 21 the Waverly School of Upper Tuckahoe presented recitations and readings about Washington and Lincoln. The audience enjoyed performances by the children and the singing of the little ones.
Prin D A Preston of Brooklyn lectured at White Plains High School on Correlation of the Public Library School and Home. He proposed using the library to supplement classroom work and to assess reading needs for cultural growth among pupils, ending with a portrait of home life’s power for all ages.
The Board of Health of Stronxville met at the Village Office on Saturday February 5 to act on the sewerage question They approved plans by C W Leggett and sent them to the Village Trustees who forwarded a copy to the State Department of Health for approval.
Mr. and Mrs. William J. Ackerman of Scarsdale welcomed a son on February 16.
