600-Pound Marble Block Transformed by Scarsdale Workshop
Mrs. William Rakower faced a colossal task for a marble mother and child sculpture at the Scarsdale Studio Workshop. Her 600 pound stone required a wrecking crew and an electric hoist to load and trucking help to move. Students and visitors watched as she carved the figure under Raymond Rocklin’s guidance, building a concrete base and shaping the stone in stone rather than clay or wood. The project marks years of study with Hovannes Goulet and Rocklin, highlighting the studio’s appeal to stone sculpture.
