The Town Club on January 24 approved a report from the public buildings and grounds committee proposing that the Woman's Club organize a fundraising drive to preserve Wayside Cottage on the Post Road. The town would allow three years for the project while maintaining the exterior.
Notice asks owners to claim items left last Saturday at the Blood Bank. Items include a brown felt hat for a man a orange hat for a woman and a man's umbrella possibly black from under the stair at the High School custodians office.
The Children's World Theatre presents the final 1948-49 Hiawatha performance at Scarsdale High School on February 9. Tickets cost 75 cents, with seats available at Fox Meadow Edgewood and Greenacres Schools or at the door. Sponsored by the Scarsdale Parent Teacher Association, the event features Indian dances and stagecraft appealing to all ages, with Blythedale children as guests.
Scarsdale Ski Club presents John Jay film Singing Skis at Scarsdale High School in color with Jim Parker narrating. Jay, now United States official photographer for the Oslo Winter Games, chronicled a decade of skiing photography beginnings and growth.
Dr Berton Lattin of Bretton Road has been re appointed to the Westchester County Council of the New York State Commission Against Discrimination by Commissioner Edward W Edwards. The three year term confirms his continuation on the council.

The Health Department records one new mumps case, one strep throat, and six measles in Scarsdale during the previous week, detailing the outbreak's scope and health measures.
Scarsdale Blood Bank drew 334 pints from 372 volunteers on January 26, breaking Westchester County’s record. Hartsdale contributed 50 donors. many local groups aided in logistics, childcare, food service, transportation, and honors.
About 3800 attendees heard a high school PTA discussion on Education Standards and Consolidation on January 22 in the auditorium. Mrs. Wayne E. Kuhn opened the session saying the panel aimed to explore questions from rising enrollment, not to take a stand for or against consolidation.
Through Mobility Inc the Westchester out patient Rehabilitation Center hosts a bridge party to raise funds and awareness. Since three years the non profit has aided over 400 county residents from 18 months to 80 years with polio paralysis stroke and hip fractures. Support comes from New York State Association for Crippled Children Junior League of Scarsdale Thrift Shop of New Rochelle and Burke Foundation with space and utilities provided by Hewitt Cottage trustees. Over 150 volunteers contribute time as therapy aides.
The county Republican executive council voted unanimously to recommend Gov. Thomas J H Dewey appoint John A Hoy of Yonkers as county sheriff to succeed the late Fred W Rusco. It also endorsed delegates to the Republican National Convention in Chicago in July from the 27th and 28th districts with listed officials.

The District 1 Board of Education appoints twenty one residents to a new advisory committee on long range planning led by Paul S. Smith. At the first meeting on Tuesday, Smith was named chairman and Feb 6 set as the tentative date for the next session to study district consolidation and school capacity needs including Heathcote and the High School. The panel includes members from Town Club PTA and League of Women Voters and aims to report findings to the board before the May annual meeting.
Incomplete returns from the Mothers' March on Polio in Scarsdale total $6,580 for the Westchester Chapter of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. The chapter thanked many women for their time and generosity supporting patient care and research.
The Town Club committee report unanimously urged Scarsdale to fluoridate its drinking water to reduce tooth decay. It cited medical groups and the American Dental Association, noting benefits from birth through age eight and a potential risk of fluorosis if levels rise above two parts per million. The New Rochelle Water Co would manage the system with a $2,200 annual cost, and village officials urged action by the Village Board.
Police Lt. examination applications accepted until February 15 for a county competitive promotion to be held March 22. Candidates must be permanently employed in the Scarsdale Police Dept and have at least one year service as a police sergeant in the competitive class before the exam date.
P. C. Spencer of Hickory Lane president of Sinclair Oil Corp opened the 1952 Heart Fund drive in Westchester. Ford Frick Bronxville commissioner of baseball chairs the campaign with mail appeals and plastic heart boxes. Scarsdale will host a Feb 12 luncheon bridge and fashion show at the Scarsdale Golf Club with Mrs. Fletcher and Mrs. Darby coordinating activities.
Leonard J. Kane of 143 Clarence Rd was elected chairman of the Scarsdale Adult School for 1952 53, succeeding Martin J. Brennan. Kane, active six years as member and teacher, was previously vice chairman and is assistant advertising director of Sonotone Corp. Other officers named include Jess L. Geisman as vice chairman and Mrs Evelyn H. Sullivan as secretary.
Police from Eastchester and Greenburgh arrested Frank Tornello known as the Sheik at the Terrace Club on White Plains Road. The 53 year old linked to a French Italian narcotics and counterfeiting ring and long police record was nabbed after evading authorities by using multiple license plates. Det. Harold Morgan and Det. Walter Dickson made the arrest with accomplice Vincent Giordano.
Regular monthly meeting of the school board will be held Monday evening at 8 15 in the board rooms at the High School on Brewster Road entrance.
