Christmas Eve Carolers Welcome Christmas Day in Scarsdale

Scarsdale residents gathered for traditional caroling around village trees including Boniface Circle, Crane Pond in Edgemont, Longview Drive, Strathmore, and Davis Park in Arthur Manor. Local officials and volunteers hailed neighborliness as Santa distributed gifts to children, with the High School Band providing music.

Ehret Named Conductor for Westchester County Chorus 1958

Walter Ehret, Scarsdale Schools choral director, is named to succeed Dr. Harry R. Wilson as conductor of the Westchester County Chorus. Rehearsals resume January 8 at the County Center White Plains with open auditions for all county residents.

NYU Names Coler Head Of Creative Science Program

NYU's Division of General Education establishes a Creative Science Program directed by Adjunct Professor Myron A. Coler. The initiative studies creativity in sciences, plans seminars starting 1958, and aims to publish findings. A reference library will codify literature on creativity. Coler, a long time NYU associate and inventor, led research at Markite Co and contributed to the Manhattan Project and several national labs.

York Nativity Play A Christmas Gift From Eight Churches

The York Nativity Play opened December 17 to 20 at St James the Less, presented by the Scarsdale Players with over seventy volunteers from local churches and the Congre gational Church choir. The production, rooted in medieval York Craft Guild plays, featured a serious of illuminated vignettes with a cappella carols and strong acting from Jill Scully, David Fairchild, and others. Director John Gass led the inspired effort with a full team of designers and volunteers, offering a shared message of human brotherhood and community spirit.

Scarsdale High Stages Win Over Stepinac to Lead League

Scarsdale High School seized first place in the Westchester Rifle League on December 16 by defeating Stepinac 711 to 640. Top Scarsdale shooters included George Moffat 144, John Phillips 143, Albie Oettinger 143, Tom Freyberg 141, Ron Cochran 140 with a perfect 100 from prone. Cochran outscored Stepinac’s best.

Two Scarsdale Men Injured On Post Road Crash

Two Scarsdale residents Good win Weinberg and Robert Calvert were hit on Post Road near Ferncliff Road after alighting from a bus. Weinberg suffered lower back injuries and was taken to White Plains Hospital. Calvert had left hip abrasions and received care from a Scarsdale physician.

Scarsdale Audubon to Participate in 58th Christmas Count

The Scarsdale Audubon Society joins Port Chester Greenwich Stamford in the 58th annual Christmas Count held December 21 to January 1. About 500 reports from 48 states, DC, Hawaii, and five Canadian provinces are compiled to aid science through field notes and bird watching.

Appointment of Mrs Manuel Lee Robbins as Vice Chairman

The Women's National Republican Club announced Mrs Manuel Lee Robbins as vice chairman of its 1958 School of Politics. The school will be led by Mrs Maude E Ten Eyck and begin January 15 at 3 West 51st Street New York. The theme is Work Now to Win Later. Robbins also serves as NYS Federation of Women Republican Clubs program chair and was 1948 treasurer of the Women's Committee for Dewey for President.
