Edgemont to Open Adult School in Greenville Edgemont

Plans for the Edgemont Adult School call for a one night per week program at Edgemont High School on White Oak Lane in fall 1957. District residents and non residents may enroll. The PTA Bulletin will seek course suggestions and night preferences with a mail option for non students. Tuesday night is unavailable.

Christmas Flower Show At Scarsdale Woman's Club

The Scarsdale Garden Club annual Christmas Flower Show at the Woman's Club will be held next Friday Dec 14 from 2:30 to 5 and 7 to 9. Tea is served 3 to 5. Exhibits include horticultural displays and pottery containers chaired by Mrs George Both. Entries span seven classes of wreaths garlands door decorations cheerful themes for Sunshine Cottage gifts for children and mantel and floor arrangements.

Council Sets $10,000 Goal to Block Korvette Outlet

Greenville Community Council aims to raise ten thousand dollars to oppose a Korvette store at Ardsley Road and Central Avenue with chairmen named for legal finance publicity and zoning. Council will delay incorporation action until civic groups report back as 477 of 1800 ballots show strong opposition.

Family of Future Will Be Discussed By Leonard Mayo

Leonard W. Mayo will discuss what challenges face the family of the future at the final session of Scarsdale Adult School’s course Building a Healthy Family. Mayo, director of the Association for the Aid for Crippled Children, has chaired White House conference committees and worked with the Rusk Mission. he joined the U S delegation to the first UN Congress on Crime Prevention in 1955. Senior High School audiences filled with repeat viewers praised the play Our Town on November 30 and December 1. The actors, especially David Rusk in the Narrator role, delivered sincere, moving performances that broke the footlights barrier and drew the crowd into the experience.

Marguerite Higgins to Speak at Scarsdale Adult School

Marguerite Higgins, renowned foreign correspondent for the New York Herald Tribune, will lecture Tuesday at nine in the High School auditorium as the Headline News course concludes. Higgins, born in Hong Kong and educated in England and France, rose from UC graduate to war correspondent, earning the Army combat ribbon and the New York Newspaper Women's prize for covering liberation events.

Village Board Sets Two Public Hearings Tuesday Night

The village board will hold two hearings at 8:15 PM in the Village Hall Annex. One covers the village purchase of three parcels on the Tooker property for the Heathcote Corner bypass exit and entrance. The other requests removal of an unused right of way at Pine Crest Road from the village map, per the Planning Commission.

Mixed Doubles Winners in Scrambled Tourney at Fox Meadow

Scarsdale women organized a drive sending a truck with winter clothing and bedding to First Aid for Hungary in New York. Donations continued at the Yolan Elton Shop with coats shoes and blankets. money gifts urged to be sent to First Aid for Hungary in New York. Nine year old Mai Lan cast in Dragon theatre role

The Scarsdale Children's Theatre presents Land of the Play ful Dragon with nine year old Mai Lan in the little court dancer part. Mai Lan, daughter of an American doctor and an Indo Chinese mother, is a veteran of Mara's company and has appeared on Kukla Fran and Ollie and Juvenile Jury. Korean Colleges Honor the Rusks in Seoul Ceremonies

In Seoul, Dr. Howard A. Rusk of New York University received an honorary Doctor of Laws from Chunggang University of Korea, while Mrs. Rusk earned a Doctor of Humane Letters from Ewha Women’s University. Rusk chairs the American Korean Foundation. Mrs. Rusk serves on its executive committee. Thirty-six months saw 16 Korean physicians trained at NYU Bellevue Medical Center in several rehab related specialties.

Santa Claus to Answer Children Letters in Scarsdale

Scarsdale Recreation Dept plans to place Santa mail boxes around the village for children to send letters to North Pole Santa. Letters must include gift givers name and return address. The Junior League of Scarsdale and Scarsdale Chamber of Commerce organize the project with volunteers and materials from local groups and donors.
