Reid denied visa for South Africa trip
The South African government refused Congressman Ogden Reid a visa unless he agreed to speech restrictions. Reid canceled plans, but taped his Affirmation Day speech for August 18 and praised the courage of NUSAS students while condemning apartheid. Michaelian Praises Nixon Tax Sharing Plan
County Executive Edwin G. Michaelian called President Nixon s revenue sharing message a major step toward real property tax relief. He said the plan should deliver no strings attached funds to local government and could bring Westchester County up to 3 million per 1 billion of federal tax sharing. He also noted potential savings if welfare costs shift to the federal level and the timeline for federal action remains uncertain.
