Scarsdale Rotary Raises 250 for Station Plantings

The Scarsdale Rotary Club raised about 250 dollars at an April 17 theater party at the Westchester Town House to support the railroad station beautification by the Garden section of the Woman’s Club. Scarsdale seniors win National Merit Scholarships

Margaret Ann Byer and Graham M. Clark Jr. of Scarsdale High School earned National Merit Scholarships in the 1963 competition. Over 1,400 scholarships totaling about 5 million dollars were awarded nationwide, with Byer receiving a scholarship and Clark a Thomas J. Watson Memorial Scholarship from IBM.

Texaco Opens Third Heathcote Five Corners Station

The third renovated Texaco gas station near Heathcote Corners on Weaver Street opens at 11 45 a m Saturday. Local residents and officials shaped a utilitarian but attractive design to blend with the suburban character while easing commercial residential tensions. Village adopts 1963 64 budget and sets parking hearing

The Village Board approved a $2,804,500 1963-64 budget after an executive session with no changes. The board also set May 14 public hearing on parking restrictions in Heathcote Five Corners, seeking to limit spots on Palmer Avenue and restrict parking on Heathcote Road and Wilmot Road.

Scarsdale Residents Oppose Parking Lot Plan on Chase Road

Eighty two percent of the 731 respondents oppose using the Chase Road area for a parking lot, favoring landscaping the village air lots 11 12 14 and 1A as a park. The Friends of the Scarsdale Parks unanimously backed the opposition at their seventh annual meeting.

Frances Magnes to Return With Recital Friday Night

Frances Magnes, guest concert program leader of the Westchester Symphony Orchestra, returns to performance after a decade with a Friday 8:30 p.m. recital at Scarsdale Junior High School auditorium. She has sung globally and premiered a Dohnanyi violin concerto for the New York Philharmonic. Accompanist David Garvey will join in works by Schubert Hindemith Brahms Stravinsky and Ravel. Sprinkler Rule Violators Lose Water Service

About 45 homeowners in Scarsdale will lose water service Wednesday for noncompliance with underground sprinkler rules. 175 systems exist. 130 now meet the code requiring a siphon between sprinklers and water lines. Service return requires permit and restoration costs.

Village Appeal Mailed By Local NRA Sponsor

Mrs. Madeleine Carabo Cone mailed a village appeal to Scarsdale residents urging support for the National Recreation Association. She emphasized the NRA has helped communities and organizations solve recreation problems for years and aided Scarsdale with needed services for churches schools hospitals and civic groups.

De Carlo Faces Challenge for Edgemont School Board Seat

Dr Charles DeCarlo of Seely Place seeks reappointment as Edgemont School Board member facing challenge from William Gordon of Clayton Road. Gordon filed petitions with the district clerk for the one year term, about 400 signatures. Election set for May 7 at 8 p.m. in Seely Place School auditorium. The district nominating unit includes nine civic and PTA groups with Dr Donald Clark as non voting chair.

Village reorganizes rubbish routes to save money

The Village Waste Department retools garage collection routes to boost efficiency. Three routes covering 150 houses have changed, affecting pick-up days for some homes. Each of the seven routes will serve about 600 homes and save about $6000 annually by employing one fewer worker.
