Arts Post A Perfect Fit For Geo Newlin

George C. Newlin, a 35 year old lawyer and new president of Westchester’s Council for the Arts, champions art as essential to life. He plans a cultural umbrella to unite 60 groups, a major building program, concert hall, museum, and repertory theatre to boost regional arts activity.

Scarsdale groups back teacher pay raises at budget hearing

At the Scarsdale School Board budget hearing last night the Town Club PTA Council and other groups urged approval of the revised teachers salary schedule and urged Fox Meadow School renovations. The budget totals 7 726 327 with a tax rate of 51 71 per thousand and includes a 335 000 boost for teachers salaries. The budget study committee supported the raises but questioned the schedule’s competitive standing while urging Fox Meadow renovations and a 35 000 project cost be studied and funded this year. The League of Women Voters backed higher salaries as essential to good education and the Fox Meadow PTA called for space and plumbing upgrades. The Town Club Education Committee and others expressed support for the pay raise and stressed keeping taxes reasonable.

Village Budget and County Reapportionment Debated by Town Club

The Town Club's Taxation and Finance Committee presents a 1966 67 village budget review criticizing overbudgeting and surplus accounting. The report urges labeling contingencies to reflect actual expenses and calls for a county board reapportionment favoring populated towns while proposing fractional votes for thinly populated areas. Midwest Educators Honor Emery for Educational Leadership

The North Central Association awarded Dr. Donald G. Emery, Superintendent of Scarsdale Schools, its highest honor as an honorary member during a Chicago ceremony. The 4,000 member association lauded his leadership in Midwest colleges and schools. he previously led Shaker Heights schools before moving to Scarsdale last year. Other honorees included the University of Missouri president, the Iowa State University provost, and a former NCA president.

Village hires Wilbur Smith Associates for Bronx Parkway study

The village selects Wilbur Smith Associates to survey traffic in the East Parkway area and study the Crane Road underpass and a westward realignment of Bronx River Parkway from Ogden Road to Butler Road. Three tasks include traffic counts, engineering review of the underpass, and a recommended design for parkway adjustments. The board earmarks up to 15 000 dollars, with Trustee Gibson Allen opposing the amount but voting yes pending further discussion.

Village Board Appoints New Chairmen For Architectural and Appeals Boards

The Village Board named Sydney Krause as chair of the Board of Appeals for a one year term while Theodore Sander Jr. cannot be reappointed. Donald Newman will chair the Board of Architectural Review succeeding Edwin A. deLima. Julia Rumsey and two new members joined the Parking Committee. Reappointments and committee assignments were announced for several village panels and trustees.
