The Village Board schedules a public hearing for April 25 on a new building law. It creates a three member building board, one architect, to hear appeals, and aims to limit neighborhood similarity across six building features with strict dimensional rules.
Scarsdale area Girl Scout adults will attend the Westchester County organization’s annual institute at the Hotel Gramatan in Bronxville on Wednesday April 19. Morning talks include Dr Margaret Brockbank on leadership benefits for leaders. afternoon rounds feature Mrs Erich Grunebaum and Mrs M E Garrison. An illustrated talk Around the World Aboard the Yankee follows dinner with Miss Mary Booth sharing color films from her world cruise. Scarsdale participants will depart from the local Girl Scout House at 9 50 AM.
Willard A Pleuthner of Old Army Road a vice president of Batten Barton Durstine Osborn will address the Scarsdale Chamber of Commerce dinner next Tuesday. His topic is If I Were a Scarsdale Merchant and he will detail survey findings and discuss consumer study highlights by BBDO.
Bus attendant Richard Wasserstrom, a High School student, takes over the position from Roger Nelson. Wasserstrom assumes duties as the new bus attendant amid school transportation staffing changes.

Stephen H. Lyons of Post Rd was reelected chairman at the March 30 organizational meeting in Village Hall. James Glass of Gorham Rd was elected secretary for 1950 with Sal Prezioso to serve as league advisor. Over 30 teams and more than 500 boys are expected to participate. league play begins April 22.
At the annual Village Board meeting Mayor Edward Ingalls named Harold L. Smith acting mayor. For the 1950-51 fiscal year the committees include finance with Earle Van Vliet as chairman, highways and drainage with Arthur McCain, law with Karl Finsterbusch, public property and public library with McCain and Smith, public safety with Liese, police, and Van Vliet, fire, health with Pilliod and Van Vliet, and recreation and parks with Finsterbusch and Smith.
No dog training due to Easter holidays. Classes resume at the Boy Scout House on April 15 with first session at 9:45 and second at 11:15.

At Scarsdale High School last Friday Mayor Edward Ingalls presented certificates of appreciation from the Village Board to the Scarsdale Chamber of Commerce the Scarsdale Gun Club the Westchester Power Squadron Auxiliary for its Sailing Club work and to Volunteer Coach Curtis Ettinger for fencing. Badminton table tennis rifle and basketball awards were also given to numerous students with officials noting unselfish service to Scarsdale children.
A cigarette started a blaze in a waste basket at the home of Mr. and Mrs. P. K. Knight on Ogden Road. Scarsdale Fire Department crews extinguished the fire around 12:30 p.m. on April 3, with damage to venetian blinds drapes and woodwork around a window.
Members of the Inter-Section Council and guests met for the annual luncheon and Council Frolic on March 30. The Woman's Club officially opened its own television station WCTYV and aired its first program The Clock of the Club. Remarks honored the Scarsdale Duck-U Ment affair and greetings were exchanged with the "old ducks present."

His talk titled A New Form of Education will cover The American Heritage Foundation and the Freedom Train project that visited 300 cities, 3 500 000 people, 16 months, and 37 000 miles, plus the foundation s aims for a new educational program.
Angelo DiPippo of the local school grounds department receives a two months unpaid leave starting May 15 to visit his family in Italy. He will be replaced by a temporary worker during his absence.
Antonio C. Gonzales of Overhill Road received the Order of Vasco Nunez de Balboa in the grade of Gran Oficial with plaque from Panama’s ambassador in Washington on March 22. He is a former U S diplomat and longtime Latin America traveler, with ties to Simon Rodriguez’s family and prior decorations from Venezuela and Ecuador. He leaves Monday for a business trip to Cuba, Panama, Ecuador and Peru.
The Board of Education was informed this week by Superintendent Archibald B. Shaw of another anonymous $50 donation for the high school library. The gift will fund books staff deem highly desirable beyond regular appropriations, with no restrictions on selections.
Craig executive director of Scarsdale Community Service Inc returns to the office the week of April 10 after illness. The note confirms his planned absence and upcoming resumption of duties.
J. Harold King of 20 Bradford Road Scarsdale is appointed to the Scarsdale Village Planning Commission for a three year term replacing Walter E. Barnes who term expired April 8. King a Yale mechanical engineer class of 1913 joined Babcock and Wilcox and has held leadership roles including Marine department manager during the war and was Police Commission chairman in Mamaroneck. He also belongs to the Scarsdale Town Club and its pay-as-you-go committee.
The Heath Ridge Association launches The Heath Ridge Herald, a two page mimeo issue challenging the Inquirer as the village paper. Its editor’s name is withheld to protect him and neighbors, while a tribute to five years of activity invites all residents to a Crossway Firehouse celebration on April 18.
Andrew J. Crafts appointed head of Scarsdale High School mathematics department succeeding retiree Montford H. Paff. Crafts has taught at Scarsdale since 1984, guiding the department through years of changes.
Over 200 residents attended as the board discussed retaining Howard Fast’s works including Citizen Tom Paine. The Rev William Kernan accused the district of teaching communism and vowed to spread the controversy beyond Scarsdale.
The SPBA announces via president Herbert Belknap that it is not soliciting funds now and not affiliated with any other group soliciting. All solicitations occur in fall by mail with no follow ups or calls, benefiting the Scarsdale Police Department.
An estimated 1000 attended the Interschool Elementary Orchestra and Band Concert at Scarsdale High School. The 67 music students from the Scarsdale public schools performed under directors Francis J. Dezort and Willard S. Briggs, featuring solos by Fred Reker and Meredith Baldwin and ensemble numbers across strings, brass, and woodwinds.
The capital development campaign for Scarsdale Boy Scouts has raised 6823.50 with Walter E. Barnes as chairman thanking residents for support. The drive aims to fund a short term camp within Council territory and invites additional contributions via Boy Scouts Box 179 Scarsdale. Camp Read registrations show heavy use by Scarsdale boys with specific troop week bookings.
Mrs. William E Forbes was nominated for president and Mrs. George Drowne for first vice president at a March 29 nominating meeting in Greenacres. Aileen Crosman and Ivan D Combe were named for second vice president and secretary, with Charles Carpenter for treasurer. May 1 PTA meeting will decide for 1950 51. Other committee members were Doris Ludwig M C Sachs George D Drowne and Alfred H Wassertrom.
