A man identified as Dennis Burkett with no home was arrested after requesting to change his shirt on a public roadway. He told Judge Mercer he faced unspecified charges and claimed four years of prior suspension.
Mr William H Sage representing the Town Club spoke to the Board of Trustees about posters and signs along highways and byways. Some members criticized the decorations as unartistic and possibly harmful to the landscape, while the board agreed to act. The following morning a board member was seen removing the decorations with notable efficiency. Outside of the cleanup issue there was little other business conducted.
The Rev Father William C Rourke announces Scarsdale parish has acquired a plot on White Plains Road for a new church, expected to be built this year. The property near Carmen Avenue was purchased for about 6000 dollars. Plans call for a stone church named The Immaculate Heart of Mary, a project Eugene Restored by Father Rourke, a former assistant at St John the Evangelist in White Plains.
A suffrage convention gathers at Veaice's Cate 110 Creer Arena in Mount Vernon for an all day event beginning this morning. Local organizers expect speeches, discussions, and community outreach.
Monday morning a raid near Cherek Lane led to a police discovery of burglars in the act. Officers Harrison and Ruggerio examined the scene finding silver salt shakers outside and a pile of sterling silverware inside. A White Plains charity ball drew about a hundred attendees from White Plains and nearby towns including Mount Pelham and New York City. Hitch's Orchestra provided music, and the event raised an estimated 1500 dollars as R Young Bros Company sponsored the venue.
The coroner’s inquest opened in the afternoon with Sullivan testifying as the first witness. He, a professional chauffeur since 1909, said he drove about twenty miles per hour toward Tronxville when two boys walked on the road. Hasselman darted into the path, he swerved and emergency brakes failed to save him. Hasselman was found near the car in great agony and placed in the vehicle. Lee had initially fled, then returned seeking help at Dr. Ryan’s after stopping at a house for assistance.
The New York Central announces bids soon for a new Hartsdale station to be built at the end of Hartsdale Avenue. The English half timber design features tapestry brick, stucco, moss slate roof, metal casement windows, a west entrance loggia with porte cochere, and a main hall with large timber beams and dark oak seating.
