New sidewalks and stock moves anchor a busy week in Scandia and environs.
A Reading Room for young people is proposed to be set up in the Bank of Scandia rear room and stocked with periodicals. A Belleville dispatch notes a newborn baby girl found in the Rock Island pond by railroad workers, with no clues to the criminals. J S Milner and wife welcomed a son on Monday September 9 their thirteenth living child, a robust boy.
Rain began Saturday morning and fell intermittently for over twenty four hours, delivering more than two inches. The soaking rain brings welcomed relief from extreme heat and is expected to aid fall crops, fruit, pastures, and wheat. Farmers hope this marks cooling weather ahead.
A Friday evening surprise birthday party honored Harry White with ice cream and cake. Guests included many named youths and girls such as Anna Hansen Clara Jensen Stella Ramsey Fay Williams Edith Sandell and George White. The gathering ended with well wishes for many more birthdays.
State Superintendent Frank Nelson spoke in Norway last Friday after an invitation by local residents. About five hundred people attended as Major C W Gulick presided, and the Kackley Band provided music praised by attendees.

Noble starred at second, Riggins booted two errors that cost Scandia, and Thornburg misplayed a fly for a rare miscue. Scandia players thanked Formoso after the game for their hospitality and good treatment at the home yard.
Smith Center and Republic plan a series of ball games at the latter place while Dan Mosher returns from Oklahoma. Belleville Freeman notes the need for reputable agents to represent a solid business house with weekly cash pay and expenses, with references and a self addressed envelope.
