Sorosis Study Club Hosts May Meeting

Mrs E E Conzelman acted as hostess for the Sorosis Study Club on May 4 at her home. White Rock Farm Bureau members attended and demonstrated their work. President Mrs Kenneth Haney explained the organization's aims. National Home Demonstration week featured a home laundry efficiency lesson led by Mrs N J Habiger with ironing board oversight by Mrs Ralph Burnham. Other guests included Mrs E J Munson Mrs W T Curtis and Mrs Fred Marlan. Refreshments were served. The final meeting of the year will be a dinner for families and members.

Scandia School Notes and Local Obituary Report

The May 6 mother daughter banquet at Scandia School drew 150 YTeen and YWCA members with Moonlight decor. A Beloit meet notes student Donald Cox placing third in 440 and advancing to state in Manhattan May 14. The eighth grade class of 1948 toured Salina visiting KS Wesleyan, Smoky Hill Air Base, KSAL radio, and a B29 air base tour. Funeral rites were held for W A Stansbury in Lovewell with burial in Webber cemetery. he died in Seattle and returned for service.

Funeral Services for Neal Hugos Held

Funeral services for Francis Neal Hugos who died in a Panama plane crash on March 8 1944 were held at the Courier Funeral Home in Manhattan. Burial follows at Sunset Cemetery. Hugos was born July 3 1921 near Norway and lived in Scandi with his parents Karl and Mrs Hugos and two sisters before moving to Manhattan. He was a grandson of Mrs Anna Hugos of Norway.

Little Estes Park Opens Sunday Previewing June Rodeo

Little Estes Park near Scandia will open Sunday May 16 with a calf roping match Carl Casperson versus Jimmy Dick at 2 p.m. The program includes horse racing wild horse riding calf roping and bucking events plus four open horse races and a mile relay. Wild range horses from the Hart Ranch Texas will be used with large cash prizes for winners.

Dr Glenn Clark of St Paul Minnesota will headline the 18th annual Kansas District YWCA membership meeting and state convention in Abilene June 2 3. Ladies Auxiliary Meets in Legion Hall May Fifth

The Ladies Auxiliary gathered in the Legion Hall on Wednesday May five with seventeen members present. Opal Rasmussen led the business session and the group voted two dollars to the Cancer fund. Evelyne Rasmussen was named to represent Scandia as Queen of the June horse show in Bellesville. Francis White joined the Auxiliary, and plans for a community banquet were finalized with a lunch served by Fern and Bessie Tedrow.
