Elden Schoen and Herman Schrotenboer of near Downs were fined 251 and 5 dollars respectively by Police Judge I C Shiannon for drunkenness. Schoen also charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated.marshal C B Weldon detained them after the Sunday incident. judge warned of further penalties if brought before him again.

Circulation of petitions to form a rural high school district around Belleville was unanimously approved at a Friday night mass meeting in the Belleville High School building. C E Heller a Kansas Power Company lineman suffered severe burns and shock after taking 2300 volts through his body while splicing a line on a light pole near the Concordia Creamery building. He was up on the pole when the accident occurred and a long splice wire was involved.
Sheriff G F Best of this county handed his resignation to Governor Reed on Tuesday. No successor announced yet. appointment will come from the Governor's office. Best was serving his second term as sheriff in this county.
S. H. Patterson accused Best of accepting money for Patterson protection. Arthur Brewster from the attorney general’s office led the investigation. Best was summoned to Topeka to answer charges and submitted his resignation, which was accepted on Tuesday.
Mrs Minnie Houghton of James town was thrown from a spring wagon when a team of horses ran away. She suffered a fractured arm and was taken to Concordia for treatment and X rays. She lived north of Jamestown with her father James Nelson.
Delegations from every Kansas northern tier county except one attended a Smith Center gathering of road boosters on US 86 last Wednesday. State highway officials pledged graveling across the entire state during 1930.

A 40 year old bridge on highway No 9 a mile north and one mile west of Greenleaf collapsed during transport of Simcox Oil Co equipment. The tractor pulled machinery and the crew were dumped into a creek with only minor injuries to the driver. State’s main highway ravine with reinforced concrete bridges is noted.
