Mrs Max Muth, licensed by the State Board of Cosmetology in Kansas, opens a new beauty shop today in her home one block north of the Home Oil Station. She has three years of experience running her own Ruskin Nebro shop and offers a full line of beauty services.
The senior class presents Bashful Mr Bobbs Friday night in the high school auditorium at 8 o clock. Leo Johnson stars as Marston Bobbs with Eldon Larson as shy cousin Robert. The cast includes Adelene Sandell, Bobby Ewin, Eldred Freed, Mona Lee Tohman, Virginia Paul, Wallace Boman, Trena Skidmore, Lucille Larson, Corinne Nashind and others. Directed by Miss Nola Stork with Miss Jean Wartman handling specialties. school orchestra precedes the curtain. Tickets on sale this week at Tage Mann and Wires drug store with 10c grade children, 20c high school, 25c adults.
Under Dr J C Everett guidance a Passion Week service series will run nightly next week at 7 30 in the Rydal church starting Monday April 3. Rev W Clyde Wolfe of Ellsworth will deliver the sacred messages guiding three county churches. Sunday Easter service at 10 completes the week with all welcome.

The Scandia Community Club sponsors another play The Wolf to be shown Friday night April 21 in the high school auditorium. It is an action packed Northwestern Canadian thriller with cast including Dolores Miller Carl Aberg Johnny Nystrom Vernon Holmes Jimmy Larsen and Walter Berger.
The Republic County Grade School Music Festival will be held at Belleville High School auditorium Saturday April 4 starting at 10:00 a.m. More than 25 county schools participate with forenoon selections from rural and grade schools and an afternoon program of mass chorus and individual numbers.
Scandia Schools and Churches cooperate for a Good Friday program on Friday April 7 at 2 30 p m. It marks their third year of joint event with glee clubs providing music and Scandia ministers participating in the program.
A winter theft ring stealing school library encyclopedias struck Rydal School District 9 near Rydal on a Friday night. A shotgun owned by teacher Dee Haptonstall, who lives in the basement, was also taken. Sheriff Curtis Moore, undersheriff Andy Moore, and county superintendent Madison Coombs investigate.
Miss Dorothy Aspegren, daughter of Ada Aspegren of Scandia, is hired by the Board of County Commissioners as stenographer and book-keeper in the county engineer's office replacing Erma Cardwell. The new appointee began duties Monday. Cardwell plans a move to California with her husband and son.
Notice states the regular YWCA meeting is rescheduled to the school house Thursday afternoon April 6 at 3 00 due to church meeting conflicts. An Easter program will be presented by Mrs. Wilmer Pruett and family with participants from Atchison and area. Sunday dinner guests included Miss Pearl Wohlfort Rev Bertha Fogelberg and Mr. and Mrs Charles Freed.
The film Men With Wings arrives at the Princess Theatre for Saturday and Sunday showings April 1 and 2 in Technicolor. It promises thrilling aerial battles and human drama with aviation as its epic theme and features accessible pricing at 10 cents for children and 20 cents for adults.
Two golf enthusiasts Fos ter Helvey and Harry Hampton enjoyed spring days on the course. One side claims Hampton was ill suited from the tee and “in the rough” most of the time, while an alleged sore throat is offered as an alibi.
The juniors scored 44 points to lead the inter class track meet with seniors 35, sophomores 31, and freshmen eight. The Swedes show strong early season form despite weather and may excel in track this season. Mr and Mrs Carl Hugos and Gladya with Mr and Mrs Albert Jackson visited Mr and Mrs Dan Stephenson of Belleville on Monday.

Two tickets Tax Payers and Citizens list candidates including Lester Richards as Police Judge and mayoral candidates Wm Moe vs E T Olson. Election board named C O Thompson J M Tedrow and Mrs Jessie Ward with clerks Miss Mary West and Mrs Theressa McDowell.
The Republic County High School Music Festival held Friday March 24 featured all nine county high schools. Scandia High presented an A Cappella Choir performing Beautiful Savior with Marcelene Perry as soloist and Solitude with a girls trio. Paul Albro played My Old Kentucky Home as a cornet solo. Scandia opened and closed the program with its A Cappella choir.
All residents of Scandia and the surrounding community are invited to a mass meeting at the Methodist church Sunday at 2 30 p m. It closes the current Lenten service series with Rev L A Indlecoffer speaking on What Will Happen Next or Gods Forecast of the Future. Special music will be presented.
Mr and Mrs Gene Spitler spent Sunday afternoon visiting Mr and Mrs Ed Loring.
The Father and Son banquet at the Scandia high school auditorium drew about 125 attendees including fathers and 20 fine boys. Rev J K Englund gave the invocation, and Miss Trea Reiber directed the Girl Reserves balance of preparations. The program featured the Boys Choir, Rev Linerson and Rev Indleceffer talks, Miss Jean Hartman piano, and an orchestra including Adolphus Nelson and Lee Reece, with Master of Ceremonies Eldon Larson delivering a strong welcome.
The Easter Cantata Christ Triumphant by Holton will be presented Sunday at 8:00 p m in the Scandia high school auditorium. Palm Sunday program drawn from church services. Directed by Miss Jean Hartman with Alice Nelson as accompanist and local student performers including Alice Goodwin Betty Larson Orville with piano accompaniment. Singers include Maxine and Marceline Perry Virginia and Lorna Mahan Gene Larson Dwaine Rob Forrest Johnson Fern Thomison Eldred Freed Fern Johnson and Victor Anderson.
Governor Ratner proclaims Friday as Arbor Day urging farmers to plant trees restore orchards and reforest streams and hills with native species to conserve the land and support livestock.
Fred L. Miller announced his acceptance of the superintendent role for Washington Kansas City Schools for next year after six years leading Scandia schools. He chairs state education groups, earned a Master of Science, and led Scandia through facility and program expansions including a new gymnasium, vocational programs, and music emphasis. Miller and wife Dolores will move to Washington late this summer amid well wishes from friends and local families.
