Courtland Meeting Supports White Rock Irrigation Plan

The Courtland Chamber of Commerce convened with nearby towns to form three member delegations for irrigation matters. Committees will liaise with W. Guy Parker of the Irrigation District and the group endorsed the irrigation law through the State Affairs Committee in Topeka, representing an estimated forty to fifty thousand people.

Senior Play Bashful Mr Bobbs Set for March 31

The senior play Bashful Mr Bobbs a three act comedy by Walter Ben Hare will be presented March 31 in the high school auditorium. The plot centers on Marston Bobbs and his bashful cousin Robert V Bobbs with a large senior cast led by Katherine Henderson Virginia Paul Frederick Henderson and many classmates. Directed by Miss Nora Stark the selection was by senior Bliss sponsors Miss Trella Reiber and Supt F L Miller.

Bequest of 100 Dollars for Scandia Library Fund

Miss Ella Dale of Jacksonville Florida left a 100 dollar bequest to the Scandia Library as requested by Miss Ella Bliss who died September 25 1937. Bliss taught in Scandia schools from 1901 for 25 years often teaching two generations of families.

Willard Nelson Advances In Kansas Wesleyan Choir Contest

Willard Nelson of Scandia survived the first elimination in the Kansas Wesleyan choir New Orleans trip competition anchored to the Salina home concert on March 9. John Paul Smith headlined the program as Director Leon Willgus weighs the Southern tour roster from 90 performers. About two weeks remain to pick a 60 member group for the trip.

Republic County Schoolmasters Meet at Belleville

Republic County Schoolmasters gathered at the Elliott Hotel in Belleville on Monday March 13 for a regular meeting. They approved pitches for a county track meet in Courtland on April 28 and a county tennis tournament in Norway with date to be set. A new all county scholarship award was adopted and medals for honor roll students were announced. Velma Long of the Kansas State Board of Health spoke and showed TB prevention films. Women high school teachers also met at the Elliott Hotel while county grade teachers met at Weil Cafe.

Juniors Select Class Rings

The Junior Class chose their rings in a afternoon meeting. Rings ordered from Josten Jewelers of Owatonna Minnesota. Salesmen from four companies displayed jewelry to the class. Rings are yellow gold with onyx ruby or white gold backgrounds. Emblem features a shield crest with the lamp of learning. Delivery set for around September 15 next fall.

Madison Coombs County Superintendent reports the final Republic County Teachers Association meeting of the school year on Saturday March 18. Both sessions morning and afternoon will be held in Blair Theatre.

Band Benefit Play A Human Alarm Clock At Scandia High

The Scandia Community Club hosts a two night benefit at the high school auditorium to raise funds for the band. The entertainment features singing numbers and a humorous farce about small town life with Dolores Miller John Nystrom and a BCH cast. Admission is 10 cents for students and 25 cents for adults with proceeds aiding the band through summer months.
