Girls State alumni reunion highlights Lawrence attendance

Barbara Hammer and Jacquelin Cooper attended the closing sessions of the Girls State organization in Lawrence over the weekend. The event marked the first alumni reunion with a banquet Saturday night where old friendships were renewed. Both were named outstanding junior girls at Scandia High School in 1948 and 1949 and sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary.

Most Scandia stores will be closed all day on Tuesday July 4th. The Scandia town baseball team defeated Burr Oak 3 to 2 Sunday in a well played game, with near perfect defense and timely hitting.

Mrs George Cardwell and Steven entertained many friends at their home Monday afternoon for Steven s 3rd birthday anniversary. The Dorcas Society met at the Lutheran church with hostesses and devotions group discussions and a singing program led by Carla Reece and Mrs Arnold Perry.
