Dana Andrews and Susan Hayward star as wartime lovers in the romantic drama My Foolish Heart, based on J. D. Salinger’s Unclear story. Supporting cast includes Kent Smith Lois Wheeler Robert Keith and Jessie Royce Landis from Broadway and 8-year veteran Gigi Perreau. The film, produced by Samuel Goldwyn, features Eloise Winters a troubled wife with Walt Dreiser as her cautious lover. Task Force follows on Saturday and Sunday June 24 25.

Brownie Scouts Report Summer Meeting Notes

The Brownie Scouts meet at 2 00 each Tuesday in summer with dues one cent weekly on attendance and two cents weekly when absent. They fund lunch, kool aid, and sugar from treasury and have paid for eight subscriptions to American Girl Magazine for girls advancing to Intermediate Scout Troop. They bought two pictures and one book for the City Library, planted seven phlox and 10 roses in the Library yard, with border wire. They pay for pins and pendants and sew tea towels from muslin and thread. Cards are sold to support the Brownies.

Republican Caucus Nominates Township Ticket Attendees

The Republican Caucus held last Friday night nominated a slate for township offices. Albert Jackson was named Clerk Milo Johnson Treasurer Frank Lervold Trustee Vic Erickson and Grant Berggren Constables Max Muth Hobart West Justices of the Peace Precinct Committee member Adolph Nelson Precinct Committeewoman Violet Johnson were listed as nominees.

Scandia’s First Street Lights on City Streets

City records from 1880 note six street lamps to be bought and placed at Water Street Fourth Street Cloud Street Fourth Street Washington Fourth Street Valley House and Kansas Avenue Fourth Street Residents hosting the oil and lighting until 11 p.m. A later vote adds three lamps near the depot Star Store and Fourth and Grant. An old globe from this era survives in the City Library via Dr. C. V. Haggman.

Robbins and Morehead Wed at Belleville Parish

Shirley Robbins and Eugene Morehead united in marriage at 2 00 pm Sunday at the Belleville Methodist parsonage by Rev Gray. After a week's trip to Oklahoma they will reside in Belleville. The Journal offers congratulations to the couple.

Family reunions honor Hammer and Amana Group matriarch

A Sunday family reunion at Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hammer home brought together many relatives from Courtland Belleville Osborne Republic Formosa Grand Valley and Concordia for a basket dinner and supper. The Amana Group marked Emily Willis 88th birthday with Rev N H Pearson a social visit and a pot luck lunch gifts were presented to Mrs Willis.

A Wednesday evening shower in Scandia Methodist church basement honored Miss Esther Cooper. Pink and white decor, floral arrangements, and a program with piano medleys and a vocal solo accompanied the gift opening led by Mrs. Dennis Horkman. Hosts served refreshments in the pink and white theme.

Fireworks Ordinance Regulates Use in City

An ordinance restricts fireworks to the fourth of July only. Violators are guilty of a misdemeanor with fines up to 50 dollars and possible jail time. Kansas law also penalizes shooting fireworks within fire zones near businesses or residences.

The Federal Reclamation celebrates 49 years of water and power to the West with an open house on June 17 1950 in Superior Nebraska. Secretary Chapman cites Roosevelt's 1902 Reclamation Act and updates on multi purpose use of river basins.

The American Legion Auxiliary led by president Mrs. Irving Isaacson met at Legion Hall with ten members present. Poppy sales raised 41.50 and thanks were given to Girl Scouts for cooperation. Discussions covered the Bond Sale and Liberty Bell showing at Belleville June 22. A Teen dance and refreshments were planned. Attendance at the 30th State Convention in Salina on June 5 included Mrs. Leslie Rasmussen and Mrs. Homer Cardwell. new officers were elected. Lunch was served. next meeting set for June 21 hosted by Mrs. Norgard and Mrs. Harold Rasmussen.

OES Meeting Observes Flag Day With Program

Scandia Chapter No. 481 OES met Tuesday June 6 with Mrs Sherman Robison and W J Matthias presiding. Flag Day observance featured a flag presentation and a poem read by Matthias. A light program followed and a pot luck birthday meal preceded. Next meeting is Tuesday June 20 1950 with District Aide Mrs Thelma Sederlin as official visitor. A special fundraising event is planned for June 30.
