Billy Graham Associate Grady Wilson to Speak in Superior

Evangelist Grady Wilson of the Billy Graham team will speak at Superior Nebraska next Sunday June 11 at 3 00 pm and 7 30 pm at the Superior Baseball Stadium. The event, sponsored by Nuckolls County churches, features a youth emphasis and a volunteer choir.

Roughest Rodeo in Kansas Heads to Elk Creek arena

News notes report a weekend rodeo at the arena near town with performances at 8 p m Friday through Sunday. Sponsored by the Elk Creek Saddle Club the event bills itself as the Roughest Rodeo in Kansas. Sunday Visitors Brighten Local Homes in the Area

A string of Sunday visits included Ernest Nelson with Lawrence and Nelson families, Danielson and Christie guests of Swanson, Stolander at Hay residence, Berry household entertained by Ray Johnson Diana and Stansberry with Crawford from Formosa, and a Norway alumni banquet attended by Dale Ainsworth of Kansas City. Diana stayed overnight. Dale Price and Kipp with Anna Hohman joined the Republic gathering hosted by Vic Brown and family.

Fort Hays Announces Track Competition June 17

The Scandia Library will be open daily from 9 a m to 5 p m through September 1 and will not close on weekends.

Miss Flynt to Attend Washington D C Institute

Miss Margaret Flynt, Scandia High Science instructor, selected by the National Science Foundation for a seven week institute at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D C. She was the sole Kansas applicant and will depart June 19 to serve as an assistant in physics and chemistry laboratories during the program.

Death of Mrs Mary Jane Burandt 84

Mrs Mary Jane Burandt 84 died on Wednesday May 31 at Republic County Hospital. She is survived by her husband William of Belleville three sons Don Scandia Ernest and Norman of Belleville a daughter Faye California grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday at First Methodist church Belleville with burial in Belleville cemetery.

Mrs Margaret Henningsen 50 Dies in Parsons Kansas

Mrs Margaret Henningsen aged 50 died early Monday June 5 at Labette County Medical Center Parsons Kansas. She is survived by her husband Clair a daughter and a son, and three sisters including Mrs Jack Reece of Scandia. Services were held Wednesday at Kramer Funeral Home in Mankato Kansas.

Bake sale to aid ball park upgrades set for June 17

American Legion Auxiliary sponsors a bake sale from 9 to 11 30 am with proceeds earmarked for ball park improvements. Donations at this time are welcome.

Legion Nine Opens Long Home Stand

American Legion baseball team starts a long home stretch with a Friday game against Osborne. Scandia lost 8-3 at Osborne Friday night and played at Belleville Wednesday. The next eight games include seven at Scandia and a June 18 visit to Clyde. Cuba visits Sunday night followed by Mankato on Wednesday June 14. Concordia edged to a 4-1 win Sunday. Game time is 8:30 p.m.

State Highway Commission Sets Salina Bid Date

The State Highway Commission today set June 29 as the bid receipt date at Salina for highway improvements in 29 counties. Earlier they had announced bids would be received on June 22.

Visitors of Mrs Max Muth on Saturday included the Moller sisters Mrs Helen Porter of Buena Park California Mrs Lyla Hatter and Anna of Holly Colorado Mrs Marie Durbin Kathy and Signd of Otis and Multonvale Kansas. The family had lived in Scandia and left in 1925. They also visited other friends in Scandia.

Donna Runft Joins Two Week Methodist Missions Tour

Donna Runft and 76 other high school juniors and seniors from Central Kansas Conference churches travel on two bus routes through Oklahoma Arkansas Tennessee North Dakota and Colorado visiting mission projects hospitals schools and Indian communities. They begin in Winfield then Tahlenah Oklahoma visit the Oklahoma Methodist Home and end returning to Wichita June 17 with stays in schools and churches and shared cooking duties.

The City Council issued three building permits recently. Cleo Brewster plans to enclose a porch on a trailer home. Dean Hobelmann seeks a double garage and split level dwelling for Clarence Gile in Buffalo Park addition. Kim and Lisa Kirk of McCook Nebraska spend ten weeks with Mr and Mrs Feed and Ron. Rain Adds To Week's Total With Drier Gaps

Rain fell again Tuesday night after two days of drying weather with a .382 inch reading and a chance of more showers. June 1 brought 1.05 inches and another 24 fell Monday for a weekly total of .61 inch. Farm work continues between showers as drying conditions permit with milo to be planted and first cutting alfalfa completed. Temperatures rise, bringing humid conditions.

Scandia Peewees open season with 5-2 win over Republic

Scandia Reds defeated Republic 5 to 2 in their season opener on Monday night. Next week they face Cuba at home on Monday evening. Scandia Blues travel to Norway on June 12 for their first game after Jamestown canceled.

Summer Music Program Schedules and Lessons

The draft outlines a summer music program beginning Monday June 19.
