Corn Loan Program Opens In Kansas Counties

Corn loans of 50 cents per bushel are now available to eligible 1937 Conservation Program participants. Applications may be filed at the County Agent's Office in Belleville until April 1, 1938. Loans bear 4 percent interest and mature in 10 months, with no loan later than November 1, 1938.

Postmaster English Announces Information on Rates

Postmaster English provides details due to miscommunication on postage rates. Closed letters for patrons at the city office are two cents per ounce for rural route items, and cards in open envelopes with only a name and address cost one and a half cents. Any additional writing or messages render the letter first class. Sealed letters remain first class.

Centerline on Highway 36 Declared Safety Measure

The community observes a Week of Prayer with union services led by city and visiting ministers. The schedule includes United Brethren Church Sunday 7 p.m Young Peoples meeting and 7:30 prayer service, Tuesday at the same church, Wednesday and Thursday at the Presbyterian, and Friday and Sunday at the Methodist Church. Business leaders are asked to close during the set hours.

Dynamite found on bridge construction site

Employees of D G Hansen Construction Company unearthed three dynamite charges with fuses and electric caps while excavating the overflow bridge west of Scandia. Each charge held four sticks and was placed near pier holes and an abutment, posing a dangerous risk during crane and hand digging activities.

Frank E Johnson Taken By Death

Funeral services for Frank E Johnson were held Wednesday afternoon from the Ada Lutheran Church with Rev C G Danielson and Rev M C Linnerson officiating. Burial was in Ada Lutheran cemetery. Johnson, a farmer near Rackley, died early Monday after a brief illness at age 52.

Dale Sanderson, who broke a leg while aiding others, was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Concordia yesterday morning. He had recently suffered lumbago that developed into pneumonia.
