Edwin Wires of Scandia dies at 65 after two heart operations and a blood clot. The Kansas Pharmaceutical News notes his quiet fineness and the affection of KPhA members and the communities he served. He died in St Joseph’s in Concordia and was laid to rest in Scandia.

Triple L Club Framed By Greenslade Friday Meeting

Mrs. Duaine Greenslade hosted the Triple L club at her home Friday afternoon for a 15 member session. The Scandia HDU met December 14 with 14 members. Stores Close Early for Christmas Eve Observance

Most Scandia stores and business houses will close at 6:00 p.m. Saturday night for Christmas Eve and remain closed all day Monday in honor of Christmas. The same procedure will be observed next week for New Years.

Voice With a Smile Aids Christmas Calls On Southwestern Bell

Santa has helpers at the switchboards as Southwestern Bell prepares for peak long distance traffic on Christmas Eve and Day. W L Ginn says about 300 calls are expected, with two extra operators on duty and some delays possible due to high volume. Tips include dialing numbers, calling early, and waiting for the operator during delays. Holiday rates apply Monday December 26.

Death of Irving Isaacson Final Rites Held

Irving Isaacson aged 35 died in Kansas City after a year of ill health. Born on a farm near Scandia he was a Scandia High School graduate and left a wife four children Jeanette Ann Bobby Jimmy and Billy. Survived by his mother Olive Isaacson of Scandia two sisters Agnes Bailey of Portland Oregon and Gergia Lee Widener of Oakland California and four brothers Elmer Raymond of Belleville Archie and Lester of Scandia. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:00 PM at Amana Lutheran Church with burial in Riverview cemetery.
