The Adventures of Hajji Baba at Princess Theatre this weekend

Walter Wanger presents the color DeLuxe epic The Adventures of Hajji Baba at the Princess Theatre Saturday and Sunday December 17 18 starring John Derek Blaine Stewart with a lavish Persia set. Filmed in Lone Pine California interiors in Hollywood the romance follows Derek and Princess Fawzia amid battles torture and intrigue. The cast includes Thomas Gomez Amanda Blake Rosemarie Bowe Paul Picerni and Donald Randolph with Nat King Cole singing the Hajji Baba theme. Also shown Saturday and Sunday December 24 25 is Demetrius and the Gladiators.

Christmas Tree Fire Safety Talk at Sherdahl 4H Meet

Larry Kelly presented safety points on Christmas trees and Charles Cline led safety measures during the Sherdahl Boosters 4H December meeting. Maudie Hallack and John Odell spoke on Fire Place Menus and Bossy’s Haircut with two demonstrations on Judging Fundamentals.

Death of Arne T Melby owner of welding shop

Arne T Melby 62 of Dallas died in a Dallas hospital after several months illness. Born in Leadville Colorado he moved to Kansas then to Dallas in 1927. He owned a welding shop after 17 years with Dallas Gas Co. Survived by wife Mabel Eggen Melby son Lawrence Barr Melby daughter Claire Arlene Melby brother Elmer Melby and sisters Mrs Clara Melbus of Scandia Kansas. Burial at Grove Hill Memorial Park with Sparkman Brand Funeral Home handling arrangements.

Scandia Swedes Rally to 68 16 Victory Over Jamestown

In Scandia’s basketball outline the Swedes defeated Jamestown 68 to 16 after a tied first quarter. Jensen led Scandia with 29 points, Larson 12. Jamestown’s Bergesen 15 and Nelson 8 top their side. Scandia earlier beat Burr Oak 44 37 and posted a 62 18 B team win.

Cub Scouts Hold Joint Den Meeting at Troop 232

Den 1 and Den 2 of Troop 232 with Den chiefs and Rev. R. B. Wilke met Wednesday afternoon to practice for the first pack meeting. Dal las Uhrick served refreshments. The main pack meeting Thursday at the high school drew many parents and guests. All 12 cubs received Bob Cat badges and a candle lighting ceremony was held. Cub Master Rev. Willie Bach presented gifts to his mother and father for den projects. Next pack meeting is Wednesday January 25 at 7 30 PM at the school.

Intermediate Girl Scouts Plan Holiday Activities

The Intermediate Girl Scouts met at the library building Monday with new member Dean na Cady. They plan to bake cookies for shut ins and go caroling Saturday followed by a party. Helen Nystrom served lunch.

Boy Scout Troop 232 News in Scandia

Troop 232 met December 1 in the high school music room with ten members. They pursued second class Scout requirements and studied the whooping crane and first aid. A December 8 meeting had nine members. Cub Scouts invited them to a session in the agriculture room where Bob Cat pins were awarded. Court of Honor planned for January. Valgene Isaacson, Scribe.

Santa to Visit Scandia on Saturday for Free Show

Santa Claus arrives in Scandia Saturday afternoon December 17 with a free show at the princess theater. The program features The Christmas Carol and a couple of cartoons, followed by Santa’s appearance with his reindeer for all attendees.

MYF Meeting and Christmas Plans At Local Church

The Intermediate MYF met December 4 in the Methodist church basement. Judy Freed and Delorese Thompson led the service with help from Larry Newcomb and Bob Currie. A Christmas drawn gift priced 35c and 50c was planned, and a church caroling event will follow. Cupcakes and hot chocolate were served by Mrs. Oscar Odell and Mrs. Glenn Currie. The meeting closed with the friendship circle.

YWCA Meeting Dedicates December 12 Program

The YWCA met in the club room December 12 with a Christmas customs roll call followed by devotionals by Mrs. Algor Anderson. Mrs. Dorothy Reed presented Forgive Us Our Christmases, the picture Christ At The Door was explained by Mrs. Lloyd Norris, and Mrs. Ralph Rasmussen read The Little Shepherd. A musical trio performed and Mrs. Vernon Exvickson and committee served launch.

OES Elect Officers in December Scandia Chapter 481

Scandia Chapter 481 OES held its regular meeting on December 8 electing Mrs Hilton Waite as worthy matron and Carl G. Hammer as worthy patron among others. A farewell message by Mrs Moe and gifts followed. Installation for 1955 is set for December 20 at 7:30 pm with a 6:30 pm birthday dinner.

Christmas Gift Shops Bring Cheer to Hospitalized Veterans

The American Legion Auxiliary will open Christmas Gift Shops in Veterans hospitals nationwide during December. Gift articles donated by auxiliary units are given to veterans and mailed to their families at no charge. Local unit supported the Wadsworth hospital Gift Shop and thanked donors at a December 7 meeting in Belleville. A potluck is planned for December 21 with a 25 cent gift exchange.

Johnson Smith union in Scandia at Methodist church

Doron Johnson daughter of Mr and Mrs Floyd Johnson of Scandia and Larry Smith son of J W Smith of Scandia were married at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon November 27. They are both Seandia High School graduates and well known locally. They left for their Phillipsburg home where Larry works for the Bureau of Reclamation.

Mutual Benefit Club Met for Christmas Exchange

The Mutual Benefit club gathered Wednesday afternoon December 7 with 10 members and one guest Mrs. Tarkowski. Officers were elected: President Mrs. Glenwood Freed Vice President Mrs. Ben Marshall Treasurer Mrs. John Vishnefske Secretary Mrs. Oscar Odell. A potluck was served and the group set to meet January 4 with Mrs. Larry Hobson.

Birthday Club Hosts Afternoon at Mrs Anderson’s Home

Mrs Walter Anderson hosted a birthday club gathering at her home. Attendees included Mrs George J, Mrs Bll Moe, Mrs Anna Holgwen, Mrs Lys Norgerd, and Mrs Rigewr DeWiet. The group played pinochle and enjoyed a luncheon.
