Survey maps 16 dams 10 reservoirs on Republican river

U S Army engineers completed a preliminary survey of dam sites from Idalia Colorado to Milford Kansas along the Republican river and tributaries. The plan proposes 16 dams and 10 reservoirs with irrigation and power development tied to flood control. Sites at Scandia Milford and Republican City Nebraska were surveyed with 12 tributary sites also examined.

Church Notes and Announcements for Christmas Activities

Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock children meet at the church to practise for the Christmas program. Sunday the Church School meets at 10 A M and the morning worship at 11. Sunday evening at 7 there is a musical program and installation of Epworth League officers. Christmas morning service begins at 5 380 A M. The Church School program is planned for Sunday evening Dec 27. Wednesday evening Dec 23 volunteers meet to decorate. A cordial invitation to all services.

Jennie Thompson author of Local Pioneer Events columns in the Journal died of diphtheria last Saturday near Dunning Nebraska. She and her parents Mr and Mrs A C Thompson had recently moved to live on her brother Halbert's ranch in a new house he built.

Mountain Mumps Successfully Staged by Junior Class

A three act comedy Mountain Mumps was presented by the junior class on Friday December 11. The well attended performance grossed over fifty dollars and featured Evelyn Brown as Peg Sothern aiding Mrs Chilton and family as they groan their way into society. Cast members included Timothy Regan LeRoy Nelson Link Forester and a lively ensemble with Virginia Lee Marshall Bill Goodwin Ralph Hawkins Ada Kallman Alice Coldazier Kenneth Danielson George Thompson Georgine Johnson and a trio Faye Cady June Freed Frances Cooper. Holiday Lights Brighten Main Street in Scandia

Scandia's Main Street glowed with holiday color last Saturday as decorator Adolph Nelson and two assistants strung colored lights across four intersections. Two large candles hung above the Post Office and Home Oil corner while stores displayed Christmas trees in windows and on the sidewalk, creating a pleasing nighttime display.

Lars Brown is recovering from injuries after a fall from a hay rack two weeks ago. A broken board caused the fall, wrenching muscles and cracking ribs. He received medical aid at the doctor’s office.

County Tournament Set for Belleville Venue

The County basketball tournament will be held February 18 19 20 in Belleville after a School Masters Club decision. Belleville Chamber of Commerce will furnish the gymnasium rent and trophies while the county plans a free throw contest under last year’s rules. The rotation to alternate between towns was approved to share hosting duties with Narka and Munden faculty women hosting a Christmas exchange and games.
