Tournament attracts crowd at IO Hall cribbage and checkers

A large crowd attended the IO Hall Thursday night to watch and compete in a two sport tournament. Cribbage saw Guy Ward tied for first with Porter Hammer and Frank Peterson winning playoff honors, while Class A checker winner was Frank Williams and Class B laurels went to Dutch Berry.

Couple Injured When Car Goes Into Ditch

Mrs. Mabel Miller of Belleville and Albert Nelson of Rackley were injured late Tuesday when the Nelson car’s steering locked and swerved into a ditch on Highway 36 two miles northeast of Scandia. They suffered severe head and facial lacerations and Mrs. Miller, daughter of Mrs. Otto Brand of Scandia, was reported in extremely serious condition. Both were taken to Patterson Hospital in Belleville.

Pioneer Woman Chas Johnson Aged 74 Passes in Community

Mrs. Chas Johnson died at her home after a lingering illness at age 74. Immigrant from Sweden who arrived in 1873 she lived in the community except for three years in western Kansas. She leaves six children four in the local area and two daughters in Kansas City. Funeral services were held Saturday at the home and Methodist Church with Rev B W Selin officiating. interment at Poplar Grove.

New Beauty Shoppe Opens With New Equipment

A new beauty shoppe opened last Saturday with equipment owned by Peggy McGregor, who operated the shop previously owned by Mrs. Glenn Johnson. The parlor, redecorated in silver and black by Will Wilson, will have a registered name chosen this week and an official opening announcement is made this week.

Open House Planned for Scandia Schools on Tuesday

P T A announces open house day in Scandia schools next Tuesday April 16 from regular hours to view grade and high school classes. An evening program in the city auditorium at 7 45 features music readings and dramatics with a Tercentenary theme for public high schools. Admission is free.

District meeting to be held here April 25 28

The Omaha District of the Central Northwest Conference will hold sessions at the Methodist Church from April 25 to 28. About fifteen ministers are expected, with several bringing wives and lay visitors from nearby churches. Meals will be served by the Ladies Aid and visitors will stay in local Methodist homes. Daytime sessions run plus Thursday and Friday evenings and Sunday public meetings.

Betty Lou Loring of Norway Dies at Home

Betty Lou Loring, age 2, died at the home of her parents Mr and Mrs Richard Loring near Norway last Wednesday night from pneumonia. Funeral services were held from the home and Norway Lutheran Church last Friday afternoon with Rev Chas Pehrson officiating. Interment was made at Riverview.
