MacGregor Expedition Report From St Marys
Captain Richardson reports from the Petersburgh Packet at Cumberland Sound that MacGregor’s troops were destroyed at Porto Bello on the night of April 27 or 28. Only about five patriots survived to reach ships. MacGregor and his aides escaped by leaping into the sea and reaching the Monarch. Batteries opened on them but the ship sailed after cutting cables. The Nassau account suggests a Porto Bello port of arrival, but the date seems unlikely.

The Fayetteville Observer reports a call to meet at the Exchange on Thursday evening next the 10th at 8 o clock to arrange Fourth of July festivities. It notes the United States Branch Bank will offer debtors renewal at an added five percent interest. Also recorded is the death on the 3d instant in Mallow, M'Intosh county, of Mrs Jane Giostillar wife of Henry Gigillat esq after a long pulmonary illness leaving husband mother and many relatives in mourning.
