A hurricane night of October caused widespread wrecks and loss of life across Cul de Sac and surrounding farms. Coffee and sugar houses were carried away while many perished under wreckage or by floodwaters rising to several feet. Headlines report fear the storm was general and assets across the region suffered extensive damage.
Numerous ships arrive and depart from Philadelphia Providence and New York with passengers, cargoes, and notices. Vessels include Sachem Johns, Louisa Chase, Big Levant, and Swifts, carrying flour, cordage, lumber, and assorted goods to consignees such as Perry Wright G B Cumming and Hall Hoyt. Several ships report passengers at risk from storms and wreck reports near Dutch Island and Cape Hatteras.
Public notice advertises sale of 30 to 40 lots between Hust and Montgomery streets in Savannah, with 60 by 100 feet blocks, offered at public sale on a Tuesday in December. Terms include half cash, remainder in equal installments. includes a 60 by 90 lot in central Broughton near Barnard Street. Also includes admin appointment notices and various auction items from local merchants.
