Flower Day Observed at New Mexico Penitentiary

Last Sunday June 7 the national WCTU Flower Day was observed at the New Mexico penitentiary under Superintendent Mrs Teats. A party including Rev Alcott Rev Torres and Mrs Harvey visited the chapel decorated with flowers. The program featured singing in English and Spanish, readings, and a poem from convict Jas Clancy. Mrs Teats praised the convicts as brothers and sisters and a concluding stanza expressed gratitude and hope for heavenly flowers.

Irelands Announcement Sparks City Candidacy Feud

A chaotic town newspaper dispute centers on who first announced candidates for city dog catcher and mayor in New Mexico. C M Creamer, a pioneer pharmacist and Territorial Board of Pharmacy president, launched a mayoral bid, while neighbor ALG Ireland echoed the notice, prompting a quarrel over timing and fairness.

Pythian Memorial Day Proclamation in New Mexico

The Grand Chancellor William M. Berger of the Knights of Pythias in New Mexico issues a Memorial Day directive for June, urging local lodges to decorate graves of departed members with flowers on the first Tuesday after the second Sunday in June, including a call to gather and hold services. The missive mentions a prior act from 1889 and prescribes attendance at designated localities with wreaths and garlands. Also notes prison sentence waivers for two inmates at the territorial penitentiary in Banso Fe.
