Christians and Syrians Launch Major Push Against Palestinian Guerrillas

In mountains northeast of Beirut Christians and Syrians opened the most decisive battle of Lebanon's civil war with heavy artillery rockets and tanks. Palestinian sources say Syrian and Christian forces advanced from two directions toward Amtoora and Metein while a separate front formed from the northwest. The clash comes after failed peace talks and amid renewed regional tension.

Juror Dismissed in Saxe Robbery Case

A juror in the Susan Saxe bank robbery murder trial, Debra Fuller, 23, was removed after prosecutors and defense cited a TV report about her possible past armed robbery with her husband. Chief Justice Walter H McLaughlin approved the dismissal, resuming the remaining jurors' panel.

Defector's Wife Stabs Self After Visa Denial

In Moscow the wife of Valentin Agapov who defected to Sweden stabbed herself in front of visa officials after a fresh denial for permission to join her husband and daughter. She was hospitalized in a district hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Idaho Legislative Compensation Amendment Debate

The proposed constitutional amendment would remove the fixed ten dollar daily salary and sixty day limit and replace it with a citizens committee of six to study and recommend legislative pay and expenses.
