Kootenai School Bike-a-thon Raises Over $1000
Kootenai School students rode 20 miles Friday for the second annual bikeathon. Sponsors donated ten cents per mile, boosting donations above $1,000 to fund athletic equipment and the student council treasury. About 40 students participated with eighth-grader Mike Reed as top fundraiser at 212 dollars and sixth-grader Jack Hammack leading the younger group at 150.

Canada to ease gas exports as Alcan route approved

A 1974 Ford pickup driven by Donna Bettencourt of Laclede swerved to miss an animal on Shingle Mill Road Saturday afternoon, lost control, skidded on its side, hit a ditch and rolled onto its top causing about 2000 dollars in damages.

A Saturday evening crash on U S 95 near Sandpoint caused 500 dollars in damage to a 1970 Dodge Coronet driven by Dennis D Bishop 57 of Spokane and 200 dollars in damage to a 1967 Chrysler Wagon driven by Clarence E Cullison 38 of Sandpoint. Bishop traveled north when Cullison tried to pass and swerved back into the northbound lane hitting the Dodge sending it into a ditch. The Chrysler ended on the road shoulder.

A 1969 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Cory G. McCormick 17 of Sandpoint left the road near U.S. 95 on the Kootenai Cutoff, failed to stop at a stop sign, and wound up in a ditch causing about 200 in damage. Officers reported no other injuries.

Idaho pea and lentil crops fall sharply due to drought with a 60 percent drop in peas and 80 percent in lentils. Prison Farm Eyed For New State Park
Gov John V Evans proposed that Idaho keep the 500 acre Eagle Island prison farm and develop it into a state park for the Boise Valley. He said the land offers diverse recreational opportunities and could include an environmental study center while preserving much of its natural habitat. Montana Man Arrested on Drug Charge
An 18 year old Trout Creek resident, Raymond D Grzechowiak, was arrested Friday by Sandpoint police for possession and intent to deliver cocaine. He allegedly offered cocaine or marijuana to a Dalby’s Exxon attendant, then approached pedestrians before police stopped him. He had 13 bags of cocaine worth about 100 dollars and an ounce of marijuana, booked on intent to deliver cocaine, held on 5000 dollar bond at Bonner County Jail.
