Blanchard School Board to discuss land deal with planner

Blanchard area trustees and Bonner County Planning Commission meet Thursday to review a 20 acre land offer for a future Blanchard school. Thisted proposed a second 20 acres if needed and bused local students currently attend Priest River schools.

Burglar Steals Four Guns From Bonner County Home

Lee Carrick reported to the Bonner County Sheriff's Office that between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. yesterday his home on Gun Club Road was burglarized. Four guns worth a total of about $800 were taken, including a 70-270 Gibbs valued at $300, a 70-270 Winchester valued at $300, a 12 gauge shotgun valued at $200, and a 30.06 Savage valued at $100. Sheriff Robert Wilcox confirmed the report.

The Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce announces three new board members John Porter of Sandpoint Drug Phil DeBoard of the Bonner County Education Association and Ray Delay of the Cattlemen's Association. Each will serve one year with full voting rights as part of a liaison driven reorganization.

Weiss Named to Bonner County Prosecutor Post

Bonner County Democrats nominate Lucinda Weiss to run for prosecutor after Glen Bandelin withdraws citing health. Weiss filed her candidacy today, seeks strong prosecution and civil representation, and promises an aggressive campaign to improve relations with law enforcement and reduce public issues. Weiss previously served as deputy prosecutor in Bonner County.

Sandpoint Firm Delays Sport Clothing Plant Plans

J Don Johnson announced the sport and winter clothing manufacturer will not review Sandpoint site for a year due to high interest rates and uncertain conditions. The firm, tied to Kurt Salmon Associates, eyed a 125 worker plant with free land offered by the Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce and an initial 6 000 square foot training building.

Sandpoint Head Start Center Saved by Oddfellows Contract

Volunteers secured a contract ending a funding dispute for Sandpoint Head Start Center. North Idaho College advised HEW to withdraw the center, but the agreement now allows use of the First Baptist Church, purchased by the Oddfellows, to continue services for 20 children.
