PUC Members Implicated In Conflict Of Interest

Idaho public utilities regulator members Harry Nock and Robert Lenaghen faced scrutiny after a September 1973 fishing trip with General Telephone executives aboard a company boat in Astoria Oregon. Gov. Andrus condemned the outing as improper for officials with tax and rate oversight of utilities. Lenaghen claimed it was a routine out-of-state meeting and fishing opportunity, while noting prior interactions involving General Telephone.

Glacier Park Grizzly Kills Woman. Rangers Kill Two Bears

Glacier National Park rangers say they fatally shot two three year old grizzlies within two hours of a young woman’s death at a northeastern Glacier campground. Mary Patricia Mahoney, 21, of Highland Illinois, was camping with friends when a bear ripped the tent and mauled her, dragging her body 30 yards before the animals were killed.

Missing Sheriff Funds To Be Investigated

Twin Falls Idaho police and state officials are examining the disappearance of about 400 dollars from the Twin Falls County Sheriff's office. An audit confirmed the shortage and a deputy attorney general from the state will visit Twin Falls to discuss the case. Detective Captain Tim Qualls noted uncertainty about any relation to political events.

IPEA Backs Collective Bargaining Policies in Idaho

Idaho Public Employes Association delegates from across the state met in Boise and approved resolutions in support of collective bargaining, opposing shortened pay periods, and increasing travel reimbursement rates. Stephen Swadley, the executive director, noted a commitment to preserving employees’ right to withhold labor and to push for equal negotiations rights for all school district personnel.

Kidwell Sues Boise Appliance Store Over Warranties

Idaho Attorney General Wayne L. Kidwell filed a consumer protection suit in Fourth District Court against R&R Appliances of Boise. He alleges misrepresented warranty scope and length, refusal to repair warranted parts, and unfair sales and repair practices. Store owner Richard S. Manok called the charges untrue and allegations to be proven.
