Look Magazine will stop publication with the October 19 issue due to mounting operating losses from declining revenue and rising production costs. The title first appeared in 1937 and by mid 1970s had a weekly circulation around 6.6 million. Other magazines have folded recently, with some later revived in different formats.

Murphy Calls For Fire Contracts

Lt. Gov. Jack M. Murphy urged uniform and clear forest and range fire fighting contracts with federal agencies in Idaho. He complained contract rules varied by region and agency and that the state had little control over aid quantities. He noted past deals could yield far larger crews than requested and stressed knowing the price tag up front.

Spokane Firm Wins Thama Project Bid

Bids were opened Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Boise for the US Highway 2 drainage and seeding project at Thama Rocks, Bonner County. Murphy Brothers Inc of Spokane submitted the apparent low bid of $99 062 for the work.

Who Owns Colburn School Property Dispute Session

Colburn residents Bob and Ruth Green presented 1912 and 1953 survey errors at a School Board meeting. They contended Ashley erred in measuring Colburn township causing a quit-claim deed transfer of two lots to Lee Shaver and urged a survey to restore original boundaries. The board agreed to study the issue.

Teachers Salaries Held At 70-71 Level

Superintendent Dr. E Wayne Likens told trustees a wage-freeze will keep teachers and most staff on 1970 71 pay schedules until Nixon price controls end. He noted enrollment slip and crowded classes at Kootenai Idaho Hill and Farmin, urging planning for facilities and possible use of aides. The board approved resignations appointments changes in health services and legal representation.

New Deputy Prosecutor Sworn In for Bonner County

Gary Finney was sworn in Wednesday as Deputy Prosecutor for Bonner County to assist Prosecutor Everett Hofmeister. He fills the post vacated by Don Swanstrom who resigned to become Court Administrator for the First Judicial District. Finney, a University of Idaho Law graduate, has practiced with Sandpoint attorney Stephen Bistline. He is the son of Alvan and Opal Finney of Sandpoint.

District 82 Expands to Three Kindergarten Teacher Positions

Superintendent Dr E Wayne Likens announced District 82 will add three kindergarten teachers using federal subsidies. If veterans or underemployed teachers are unavailable the district may hire on its own, with planning to pilot a kindergarten program in the second semester.
