Hearing Set in Spokane on Alaska Gas Pipeline Plan

The Bureau of Land Management will hold a public hearing in Spokane on September 29 about a draft environmental impact statement for a multi billion dollar Alaska natural gas pipeline. The document analyzes environmental effects from vegetation wildlife water soil topography and other factors and considers alternatives including other energy sources. The project would move gas from Prudhoe Bay and Mackenzie Delta to California and global markets with two branch lines to parallel an existing Canadian line through northern Idaho and eastern Washington.

Serious Crime Up Sharply In Bonner County

Bonner County crime rose 43 percent in the first seven months of 1975 from the same period last year. Sheriff Robert Wilcox cites a nationwide trend as contributing, with aggravated assault up 360 percent, burglaries up 54 percent, and larcenies up 28 percent. Murder totals remain low, with two murders last year and none so far this year.

Hope Sewer District Election Sparks Local Debate

A proposed sewer district for Hope and East Hope prompts a board election and a yes or no vote this Friday at Hope City Hall from noon to 8 p.m. Ten director candidates appear on the ballot, with five supporting the district and five opposing it. Board Extends Roop Road Route

Bonner County school board agreed to extend a bus route two miles up Roop Road after parents pressed for service. Transportation chief Ken Holt will relocate a 30 passenger four wheel drive bus to transport 12 students along the route amid a heated discussion about the extension.

Memaloose Sewer District Proposal Fails At Polls

A vote of 50 to 30 rejected creating the Memaloose Sewer District spanning part of the Samonen Peninsula. Residents balked at costs and lack of clear advertising while opposing the process and seeking consent before any bond issue.
