Mary Ellen Temple Celebrates 100 Years in Sandpoint

President and Mrs. Nixon send a personal centennial card as Mary Ellen Temple of Sandpoint marks her 100th birthday at Open House at Sandpoint Manor. Born in 1871 in Northfield Minnesota, she lived in Morristown Belfield Ponderay and had five children including Lucile Parker and Phoebe Bolser. She has 18 grandchildren 63 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Elliot Makes Final Try For Sonics Team

Gary Elliot, Sandpoint standout and Idaho University Forest Management graduate, reports to Seattle Sonics camp for final evaluation before roster cuts. His father, Sandpoint Police Chief George Elliot, says two or more players will be cut as Gary hopes to join the top-rated NBA team. Elliot also excels in baseball.

Gas tanker rollover spills 4800 gallons on SH 200

A gasoline-laden tanker carrying 4800 gallons rolled on its side after pulling onto the shoulder of SH 200 north of Sandpoint. Driver Jack Schoonover escaped injury. The spill prompted a six hour detour while a Coeur d Alene wrecking firm righted the vehicle and state police coordinated traffic.

Clark Fork Cyclist Injured In Wreck

A Clark Fork man, Richard L. Foster, 25, was critically injured when his touring class motorcycle struck a deer on SH 200 at Spring Creek Road. He was airlifted to Bonner General Hospital. his skull fracture and other injuries were described as severe but improving. Idaho General Fund was $5.8 million in the red at August end, $6 million worse than a year ago, with $5.5 million in outstanding tax notes. State Treasurer Marjorie Ruth Moon noted no notes then.
