Priest River Priest Dies in Highway Collision
William J. M. Pelleberg age 68 of Priest River was killed Saturday when his vehicle left Highway 57 and struck a tree about 30 miles north of Priest River. The report gave no details on how the crash occurred.

Fire near Careywood Burned Six Acres. Volunteers Helped
A forest fire destroyed about six acres of timber near Careywood over the weekend but local volunteers helped prevent further spread. State fire warden Willis Jordan said the blaze began Saturday on logged property and was under control by about 10 p.m. The cause is not known. Aircraft dropped retardant and crews from Sandpoint Priest Lake St Maries Coeur d Alene and Clarkia Wa aided the effort along with 40 local residents who helped with shovels and equipment.
