Hummingbirds and Moths in Bonner County
Bonner County residents notice hummingbird moths in late summer acting as bright winged stand-ins for hummingbirds. The moths, three to five inches across, sport striped abdomens and long beaks, yet come from hornworm larvae. Hornworms are pests in some areas, though not north Idaho, while adult moths feed on nectar. Anglers report kokanee fishing changes on Lake Pend Oreille due to unsettled weather, with more fish found at 10 to 30 feet deep in the past five days.
